What a peaceful place! The gardens are beautiful, the service is excellent, and the food is great! Just a short drive out of Nairobi made for an easy last-minute weekend getaway. Great for enjoying a book and watching the sunset over the valley. All the rooms have great views overlooking the valley, with enough distance in between to give you the feeling of being the only people for miles.

We stayed here for a weekend with my family. Instead of always going to Naivasha, Nakuru, etc...this place is very close to Nairobi and you are directly in the full nature. There is quite some wildlife and lots of birds. The lodge in like 10 minutes from Mombasa highway and has only 5 rooms. The rooms are very good. This is an ecolodge and the people working there were very attentive and friendly. A real must for a weekend trip. You can rent moutainbikes, do hiking, etc....

Room Tip: all rooms have a good view on the conservancy

Friends of ours had recommended Amazing Kenya after they'd stayed there recently. At first, the name led us to believe that this was a bigger, resort-like place. But as it turns out, Amazing Kenya is a charming place - only 5 rondavels (guest houses) and 1 main building housing the lounge/living room and dining room. There is an additional house, but this is occupied by the current managers. We had a bit of trouble finding the place after coming off the Mombasa road - mostly because we weren't paying attention to the very discreet signs placed at the intersections. We almost didn't notice the giraffes nearby as we searched for Amazing Kenya! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the managers and their adorable son, as well as the staff, who promptly showed us to our rooms. Due to traffic we'd arrived later than announced, but they had waited for us and soon we were sitting down for lunch.

Our waiter, equally the receptionist, was very attentive, and made us feel very welcome. We were with our 2 year old son, who isn't always the quietest child, but the staff was very kind to him, and even playful. We ate lunch facing the fantastic view, and got to relax after escaping the stressful Nairobi traffic. We looked at the various activities offered (nature walks, mountain bike, sundown drinks on a nearby rock, ...) and opted to just sit back on the verandah and enjoy the afternoon with a couple of drinks, as our son played nearby. The plant/flower gardens at Amazing Kenya are absolutely stunning and well maintained - with enough grassy area for the little ones to run around. The decoration in the rooms and main house is very tasteful, and plenty of toys and books are available in the main lounge ensure that those not hooked on the courtesy Wifi (in the main building only) can still find something to do. Do note that there is no pool, but this is far from being a problem. If one really wants to go for a swim, Amazing Kenya has an agreement with the not-exactly-next-door Maanzoni Lodge, so that guests may use the pool there.

It's worth mentioning that the food was a three course meal, and was set in advance - this is not an à la carte restaurant, but we were very satisfied. We had vegetable soup, beef goulash followed by fresh fruit for lunch, and for dinner, tasty chicken with grilled vegetables. The wine selection was limited but we were quite happy with a bottle of Gato Negro Cabernet from Chile. Coffee (french press!) and tea was available, and we sat in the lounge after dinner to catch up on a few work items while our son slept on the sofa.

Back in our rooms, the staff had prepared the bedroom, and left flower petals on the bed - quite charming! They had asked in advanced if we'd need a child's bed, and as agreed, it was ready, equipped with a mosquito net.

We fell asleep to the barking of a hyena somewhere in the distance, and woke up refreshed - the bedding is of quality, and even our son who normally is up by 6.15 slept all the way until 8!

Breakfast was served in the main building, and once again we enjoyed the view (eating indoors this time).

We weren't rushed to check out in any way, as not many guests were planned for this coming day, and we felt so relaxed we considered staying another night! In the end, we decided we'd come back some other time, and maybe try the sunset drinks on the nearby rock.

Room Tip: The two rondavels (huts) in the middle have the best views (for those not sharing a twin room, which are on the right side).

Our stay at Amazing Kenya Retreat was nothing short of amazing. The sense of seclusion and privacy allows to you to fully immerse into the surrounding nature. The staff's subdued yet courteous service adds to the relaxing experience. Ideal for anyone who is looking for peace and to get away from it all. I highly recommend watching the sunset from the rock - the view is simply breathtaking. Other fun activities include day trips to the market in Machakos (don't miss the samosas at T.Tot while you're there), spending the day at the pool of Maanzoni Lodge or simply going for a run in the wildlife.
