The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo isn't the largest you'll ever see, but it is expansive enough, and has a lot of unique things going for it. You'll see, and get up close to, more Giraffes than you thought possible. The meerkat exhibit is excellent. There's a great penguin stop. The environment on the side of super steep Cheyenne Mountain gives the whole place a more natural feel than most city zoos. If you're coming from sea level, you may want to pace yourself as there will be a lot of walking up hill at high altitude.

This is a beautiful zoo on a mountainside. The exhibits are nicely done and the animals all look well cared for. The map they give you is hard to decipher and we had to go back to areas where we missed seeing some animals due to the map. The aerial ride was closed because of threatening weather so wished we could have done that. The food is too expensive. An added perk was that you get free admission to visit the Will Roger's Shrine way up on the mountain. It's worth going driving up to see it. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the giraffe area. It's nice that you can feed them (you get 3 pieces of lettuce for $5) but we witnessed one giraffe that grabbed someones broucher and ate it. Then I witnessed the "male" giraffe in another enclosure that grabbed a women's umbrella and ate the piece with the snap on it. I went to see the zoo operator and they just brushed it off and said they can't do anything about it and that the giraffe will likely be okay. I said that they should tell everyone entering the feeding area NOT TO HAVE ANYTHING IN THEIR HANDS other than the lettuce but they didn't seem to care. Also, where this zoo is breeding giraffes I felt that the area is way too small for them. There is no way they can ever run in this small area even though it looks real nice. I'm sure they give you just lettuce because the giraffes would be get way to fat on anything else. That was my only complaint. All in all it's a wonderful and pretty zoo.

I'm kind of wary about zoos, but the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo had nice animal habitats, and the animals seemed well cared for. There's a lot to see at this mountain zoo. They also have a scenic aerial lift to ride on. So pretty. Food is expensive. We had a great time.

This is one of the best Zoos' I have been to. The exhibits are great and the food and beverage amenities are second to none.

Best mountain zoo ever! Views are fabulous. They continuously update natural habitats and keep them well maintained. Bring sunscreen, comfortable shoes for lots of walking, & drink lots of water with the high altitude. Plan on spending several hours or more to see everything.
