If you want an easily accessible hike in a very natural space in the middle of the city, but want to avoid the crowds of Palmer Park, Ute Valley, or Garden of the Gods, this is the place for you. Despite being sandwiched between business development on one side and residential development on the other, few people hit these trails.

This is a great hike if you want to get a great view of the mountains and Colorado Springs. My family, which includes an 11 year old and 14 year old, hiked it in the evening and saw the sun setting behind the mountains. We saw a few wildlife along the way (no snakes, thankfully!). The climb closer to the top can be tricky, but if you have the proper footwear you should have no problems. We followed the wider trail to the top (easier to follow), but we witnessed others taking the narrow paths, too. Parking is free. Definitely recommend!

Our son had been living on the YWAM base for a few months and took us to Pulpit Rock. Since he had been there before he knew the trails. They aren't well marked, but it wouldn't have stopped me from getting to the top. We went on a Saturday morning and we saw lots of families (with little kids...age 5ish) so this climb/hike is for all ages. It is best to have shoes with good traction because it is steep in certain areas. I think it's only 1/2 mile from the parking lot to the top of the rock, but it takes a bit of time since it's not the easiest most gentle slope!

Easy access, amazing views of Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs, the Black Forest, the Scar, etc., etc. We took a leisurely walk and ended up on top of the rock (just a little challenging near the top). Most trails are wide and groomed. There are many social trails that get difficult and rough but stay on the main trails both for ease and for the environment. Great place for some exercise and amazing views!

So on our hike one of our dogs were bit by a rattlesnake snake, we rushed her to the vet yet she didn’t serve the night. Horrible experience and the entire family continues to morn our dearly loved 12 yo black lab names Ally
