“Was a great place... badly degraded in recent years”

Gold Camp Road provides a stunning drive in rugged terrain, including two very cool tunnels. There are places to stop and check out the views. But in recent years, it has become overrun with just too many people, most of whom have no regard for picking up after themselves. And most of those pullouts will be occupied with people smoking weed in their cars... so much for getting some fresh, clean mountain air! Add to that a couple dead bodies found in the last year, and it has really lost it's appeal.

The drive heading up the mountain offered breathtaking views of the city below, but when the road turns to gravel, you’re in for a treat! What a beautiful red rock mountain oasis. There are pleasantly of lookouts and trails.

Been on Gold Camp Road during the summer, during the rainy season, and during the snow. The snow is definitely the most fun time to drive it, but, make sure that you have 4WD and know the road and curves and have a survival kit if you get stranded.

All 3 tunnels can be access from the Cheyenne Canyon parking lot about Helen Hunt Falls. Tunnels 1 & 2 are down the dirt road to the right. Tunnel #3 is found by following the dirt trail on the left. Once you get past tunnel #3 you will be treated to an amazing view. If you continue on you have an opportunity to reach St Mary's Falls.

It was a scenic and majestic drive, although it was busy, a lot of bicyclists and hikers.
We also saw an accident where one car was backing up, be careful if you do go, its narrow at places.
