The pride of Watsonville, Sunset State Beach boasts one of the best spots to spend the golden hour overlooking the Monterey Bay. As harsh sunlight becomes more flattering overtime, its soft golden hues start to dominate the entire area, and everything suddenly turns magical. At this special moment, the walk along this expansive coastline becomes more enjoyable and relaxing. The water glisten like dancing stars as if someone just sprinkle dust of crystals. Shorebirds, largely the seagulls, snowy plovers, and long-billed, further amplified the magical effect when they play catch and feed along the shore as water ebb and flow. Perhaps, it’s adorable to watch playful dogs chase after the birds, but please take heed not to further disrupt their habitat esp. their nesting areas. Definitely, a great photo-op for Instagram, facebook, or wallpaper. Quiet. Permitting. Relaxing. Scenic. Healing. Inspiring. Worthy of a 5-star rating from all of us.

We camped at the Pine Hollow campground for 3 days / 2 nights. It was our first time here and we didn’t think much of our site when we pulled in, but after seeing all of the other sites in our loop, many were on a slope or somewhat close to others, I think we got one of the best ones, site 74. Sure it’s towards the back and there’s a fence with visible green houses not too far from you, but it has flat ground for tent camping, and you don’t have any close neighbors to the right or left, just the ones across from you, and the bathroom with warm quarter-powered showers is just a little walk away. The walk to the beach was about 12 minutes from our site, but if you’re out of shape, you may want to strongly consider driving down (2 minutes, plenty of parking) to the beach instead, because the walk back up the long steep hill is harsh. The beach itself was nice, sand was soft and it wasn’t too cold.

There’s also supermarkets within a 15 minute drive in case you need to go out for supplies.

All in all, it’s a good 2-3 day getaway spot.

We were in the Watsonville area and drove out to Sunset State Beach. This is a very nice park with awesome views of the Pacific Ocean. We enjoyed a walk. Many others were there too.

This beautiful expansive beach offers the opportunity for miles and miles of walking, along the edge of Monterey Bay. There were surfers, fisher people and others just relaxing on the beach. We stayed in the North RV park for one night. It was very quiet although in February the number of guests was very low. The sites have trees and are very clean. No hookups but a nice picnic table and fire pit available at each site. The bathrooms are clean and adequate with showers. The beach access is closer to the South Campground so we will try that next time. This won't be my last visit to Sunset Beach, a great place for a quite respite.
