Cute cottage, free brownies, good location

Review of Rustic Cottages
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Jul 2021
We stayed in the "Alpine" cottage, which was perfect for 2 adults & 2 teenagers. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, pots/pans, glasses and cutlery and had a gas stovetop/oven and a decent-sized fridge. There was a table and 4 chairs in the kitchen, and the front patio had a small table, a couple of chairs and built-in benches. The furnishings were "rustic" and we didn't have a sofa or comfy chairs, but we made do with the day bed/trundle bed in the front room. We used the gas barbecue on the main front lawn as well as one of the picnic tables, croquet set and ping-pong table. We bought food at the local Safeway supermarket that was about 5 minutes away by car. The beach across the street was easily accessed from the cottage, but we didn't use it much. It was very small and rocky. Free brownies in the main lodge and souvenir coffee mugs were a nice touch, and one of the owners, Marshall, was very helpful and friendly. They have a bunch of movies that you can borrow for free. The location was very convenient to the Tahoe Vista location of Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park, and to King's Beach, where we met our kayaking tour. The street that runs right in front of the property is a main thoroughfare and was usually very busy and sometimes a bit noisy. I would not like staying in one of the cottages that is right next to the street. Marshall told us about a very nice hike that we could walk to easily from the cottage that goes through a beautiful meadow and up into a wooded area.

At the last minute we drove up here from the bay area and we’re struggling with a place to stay. We came across the rustic cottages and are so glad we did! At first we weren’t sure about the whole cottage thing but they are clean well appointed and they think of everything. They even allowed our little dog for only 20 extra dollars. They have some rooms with no dogs allowed in case that is a concern for you. At check-in there are all kinds of free goodies including coffee mugs, chocolate chip cookies, and all your soaps and shampoos and coffee packets. The gal at check-in was very nice and even let us see one of the other view rooms (no dogs in that one) for next time.
There is a beach directly across the street that is free and parking is not a worry because you can just leave your car here. I will definitely be back again!

We were able to book same day as we arrived on a Sunday on a road trip. Reception was helpful over the phone describing the cabins and we chose the Crystal cabin with a view looking right at the lake.

The cabin was warm and cozy. Fairly small but had a microwave and mini-fridge, gas fireplace and jacuzzi tub.

Loved the small touches like the cookies and brownies, postcards, souvenir mug and coffee and hot chocolate packs available in reception. Love the retro movie collection. We borrowed a VHS tape for an evening, and were offered some microwave popcorn to go with it. Also borrowed a sled for a few hours in the afternoon to sled at Tahoe Meadows.

This will be my first choice of lodging when I'm back in the North Tahoe area.

My family and I spent two nights at the Rustic Cottage in Tahoe Vista. It was an great experience. My children enjoyed having the semi private yard to play with the snow. They enjoyed renting movies and getting popcorn, all included with the stay. I would give this experience 5 stars but during our second day we noticed that my children’s switch console game was missing. We looked and looked everywhere. I mean it was five of us searching for a medium cartridge everywhere inside the small cabin. My child stated he had left it on top of his bed and when we returned it was gone! At first we thought he had miss placed it. We searched everywhere, inside our bags, drawers, truck, under mattresses, every corner, you name it. It was no where to be found. When we got home we unpacked and researched everything again and didn’t find the missing game cartridge. I came to the conclusion that someone at some point went inside our cabin when we weren’t there and took it. My message to everyone is to not leave anything of value inside your cabin or anywhere. If you take something expensive make sure to take it with you. Some employees can be unethical and take what’s not theirs. The sad thing is that they left a child crying and ruined a bit of his stay there. I let the receptionist know of the incident but all she said was that they’ve had the same employees for 12 years and “supposedly” they wouldn’t take anything from inside the cabins. This is just a warning for y’all.

My husband, my dog, and I spent 2 nights at the Rustic Cottages in Tahoe Vista. We stayed in the "Sierra" cabin. We were treated wonderfully! The place was clean and had many amenities. We had a small kitchen and was able to cook our Thanksgiving meal. The cabins are across the street from the lake. We had a great time. We will definitely be back!

We fell in love with Rustic Cottages charm in August of 2019.
You can rent VHS and get popcorn at the desk, the rooms were clean and it’s right across the street from the lake. Marshall was so great and helpful and the breakfast was yummy and traditional. The dining area has so much history and character, and this whole experience was backdropped by Tahoe’s big pine trees. The cottage we stayed in had everything we needed, including cutlery, pans, cups, mini fridge and stove. Safeway is a mile up the road and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our stray.
Beautiful property, helpful staff, great location and overall fun experience.
