Best Place on Lake Tahoe

Review of Rustic Cottages
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Sept 2020
We fell in love with Rustic Cottages charm in August of 2019.
You can rent VHS and get popcorn at the desk, the rooms were clean and it’s right across the street from the lake. Marshall was so great and helpful and the breakfast was yummy and traditional. The dining area has so much history and character, and this whole experience was backdropped by Tahoe’s big pine trees. The cottage we stayed in had everything we needed, including cutlery, pans, cups, mini fridge and stove. Safeway is a mile up the road and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our stray.
Beautiful property, helpful staff, great location and overall fun experience.

Private pier & beach located right on on Lake Tahoe in Tahoe Vista, CA. Our cabins are cozy, with all of the amenities of home and unparalleled access to Lake Tahoe. Lakeside and lakefront cabins are located on the same side of the road as Lake Tahoe, and the forest-side cabins are just across the street.

Our first time to Lake Tahoe. I wasn't sure where to stay. There are many options.
We were very happy with Rustic Cottages. The property is neat and cared for.
We liked having a kitchen so we could social distance. Our cabin had a porch to sit on and there is also a grassy common area with picnic tables and lawn chairs. One great thing too is the public beach across the street. The nice sandy beach is great for kids because it is shallow for a long way. The shallow water is warmer too. Lake Tahoe can be cold. We enjoyed walking across to the beach with our kayak and heading into the water. No worrying about fees or finding a parking place.
We were very happy with the provided breakfast every morning. The owner was friendly and willing to answer questions.
The area does have nearby eateries and activities but is less busy than the south shore.
We would stay here again.

Room tip: Our cabin the Vista fit 2 people. You can the road traffic. No a/c but night temps. dipped to 37 F.

I was disappointed with the amount of money I paid to stay at the “Timberline” cabin. Check in was suppose to be 3 PM. I got in there at 4:45. No apologies. No nothing. Just, “we are running behind schedule and working as fast as we can”. The check in person was not wearing a mask despite the governors mandate that all employees who interact with the public wear masks.
My grandchildren are 4 and 6 years old. The cabin was on the second floor. The kids could have literally fallen out of the windows because there were no screens on ANY of them and they were wide open!
The garbage dumpster had not been emptied and there was garbage strewn everyone. The grounds had not been weeded and grass had not been manicured and cut.
The cabin itself could be so amazing if it were loved by the people that own it. I was so disappointed for my family because they saw pictures and thought the area would be pristine and beautiful.

We couldn’t have been any happier with our stay. Our cabin was so warm, cozy and spotlessly clean - loved having the kitchen to cook homemade meals after a long day on the slopes (it came with everything we needed like pots, pans, plates, mugs, cookware, utensils, dish soap, etc.) and having the fireplace (connected to the thermostat for easy use) was an added touch. And talk about the hospitality. We loved all the extra amenities Rustic Cottages had to offer. The cookies and brownies were amazing. We loved being able to rent movies from the front office and were even offered popcorn so we could truly enjoy. Breakfast was great and so were the homemade muffins. We sent so many postcards to friends telling them to stay and can’t wait to use the complimentary mugs they gave us when we get home. You feel like a true guest when you’re staying here - the little unexpected touches were so appreciated. The team here goes the extra mile in all aspects. AND The location was perfect. Can’t wait to come back!!!

Room tip: Cabins farther away from main road are quieter

My husband and some of his college buddies and wives stayed at Rustic Cottages (13 in all) and we were very impressed. The cottage we stayed in was The Tahoma. A queen size bed, kitchenette, bathroom, jacuzzi (which we did not use), table / chairs, sofa, etc.. It was a relatively large room and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and breakfast in the morning is very good: scrambled eggs, waffles, sausage, ham, toast, juice, coffee. There are always homemade cookies and brownies and a huge candy jar in the office! This place is right across the street from the lake!!!!

Room tip: The Tahoma is one of the larger rooms and quieter.

Visited this place in the last week of February 2019. Was staying at the Emerald cottage with a friend for 2 nights. During my stay I realized that this was a family-run property and the hosts took care of their guests as family members. Loved the breakfast especially the freshly made muffins and pancakes. The front desk lady guided us about the ski-suit rentals and sites for skiing. Very few hotels give souvenirs to their guests, this is one of those places.
The cottage itself was very beautiful from within. Had a fire place, well equipped kitchen and spacious bathroom with bathtub. There was a TV with VHS player and you could borrow VHS tapes from the front desk. The whole experience was like going back in time, especially for people who live is metropolitan cities.
The location of this place is fantastic. Just across you have the lake and lots of eating options within 5 minutes drive.
To summarize, this is a must stay place. Hope I can visit again soon!
