Owner description: At Tolosa, we are true believers in the special terroir that is Edna Valley, nestled amongst the East-West running volcanic hills of San Luis Obispo County and the frontier for the most complex cool-climate varietals in California. Our Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays reflect the cold Pacific wind that sweeps down the coast and funnels into the valley, as well as the remarkable diversity of soil types: ingredients for nuanced and balanced wines of distinctive character. We combine traditional methods such as hand punch down and whole berry uncrushed fermentations with cutting edge technology in soil exploration and vineyard mapping to handcraft exceptional Pinot noirs and Chardonnays that are the purest expressions of Edna Valley. Visit us daily 11-6pm for exclusive limited release and barrel tasting flights. Reservations recommended. Contact our concierge at 805.782.0500.

Visited the winery with no reservations and a group of seven. We got a cold reception from the hostess (because we didn't have reservations) but got in right away because there was virtually nobody in the tasting area. We had a very nice server who knew the wines well. Unfortunately, most of their wines are priced over $50 and taste like $20 bottles. We did the tasting of 4 wines for $20. I think they spent a ton of money on their facilities and the investors must want their money back as fast as possible. They have very nice picnic grounds so it is worth a visit if you are a fan of expensive but average wines.

Just finished their 2014 Pinot Noir "Marley Anne", superb and sultry at the same time.
We get their quarterly shipment of reds to our home, yes please.
Top notch stuff, bravo!!!

If you haven't been to Tolosa for a while you are in for a big surprise on your next visit. They have completely upped their game here in the last couple of years after being purchased by a wealthy individual who also owns a winery in Napa. Tolosa now focuses on predominantly Burgundy varietals ( Chardonnay and Pinot Noir ) and boy they are knocking it out of the park on these wines. Of course prices have taken quite a leap from the old $20-$25 dollar bottles but the quality is so incredibly higher it's very much worth the $40-60+ they are now at. If you are a casual wine consumer then maybe this isn't the place for you but if you are a serious wine fan you will be floored by the exceptional wines being made at Tolosa currently. On top of the great quality of the wine itself the staff have clearly been trained to offer you an exceptional and knowledgeable experience . Not to mention the very classy tasting room and really nice outdoor areas for sitting and relaxing with some wine. With all these upgrades Tolosa has risen to the top of my wine tasting experiences on the central coast. I spent $20 and tasted 7 wines that ranged in price from $40 - $105.!! This is an experience you just don't usually get in this region. If you love wine you have to check Tolosa out. You won't be disappointed!

The tasting room of Tolosa looks modern, clean and sparkling. I liked it immediately as I walked in. They showroom their stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, which is interesting to visit. The staff was very friendly and are very knowledgeable about wine. Mike was our server, and he had many years of experience in wine tasting and serving, and was a nice man to chat with.

Tolosa has two places to wine taste: at the bar inside or relaxing at a table outside. We chose the latter. The pourings are very generous and the wine is outstanding but a bit expensive. The bar tasting area seems a bit sterile. And looks out over the wine processing area which is nice to see. I recommend Tolosa highly.
