Owner description: At Tolosa, we are true believers in the special terroir that is Edna Valley, nestled amongst the East-West running volcanic hills of San Luis Obispo County and the frontier for the most complex cool-climate varietals in California. Our Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays reflect the cold Pacific wind that sweeps down the coast and funnels into the valley, as well as the remarkable diversity of soil types: ingredients for nuanced and balanced wines of distinctive character. We combine traditional methods such as hand punch down and whole berry uncrushed fermentations with cutting edge technology in soil exploration and vineyard mapping to handcraft exceptional Pinot noirs and Chardonnays that are the purest expressions of Edna Valley. Visit us daily 11-6pm for exclusive limited release and barrel tasting flights. Reservations recommended. Contact our concierge at 805.782.0500.

Wine tasting here is a very nice experience. The server was very good and informative. The pour was generous and the wines excellent. The atmosphere was pleasant.

San Luis Obispo wines are new to me, so we went exploring. Tolosa winery was an incredible find! Mike introduced us to Tolosa. The chardonnays were nice, but the Pinot noir was the real draw. The tasting room was very modern, clean and perfect for watching the wines being processed. Nice outside seating as well.

What a wonderful place. Not only are the wines outstanding, the service is top notch. We've been here twice now and always request Shelly. She is an expert on wine and can pick out the ones you will like once she knows your taste. Amazing! Tasting is done tableside; you can enjoy the outdoors at the same time. We became members.

$20 for a tasting of 4-6 wines, but worth it. Mature wines show the winemaker knows how to soften sharp notes and 'run with the bigger dogs'. Service was noticeably attentive on this Sat and I wondered why they had so many non-pouring staff but after seeing their attention to customers, I now understand. Retail pricing of a bottle starts at $40 ($35 for a dessert wine).

Outside seating is decent, alongside a vineyard but doesn't offer overlook views like other local wineries.

I will return here.

Tolosa Winery had been recommended to us during our visit to San Luis Obispo over the Memorial Day weekend so we decided to give it a try. The winery's modern architecture inside was quite interesting (I liked it) but things went downhill quickly after that.

First off being greeted at the door and led into the winery was a bit of a turn-off. We decided to sit on patio...there were at least 5 or more winery staff there serving others. It was not particularly crowded...and we sat, and sat and sat. I had to go to the cashier and ask how their wine tasting worked. We finally got a young kid to serve us...he turned his nose up when we said we'd split one wine tasting ($20) and said we could only have one glass...sigh.

I found the wines mediocre at best and really overpriced. We taste a lot in Sonoma County so understand wine prices at wineries. The chardonnays were somewhat bland and only one of the two Pinot Noirs was good...but at $65 per bottle I could not justify that sort of a price.

In short a good looking winery with a overly pretentious feeling and overpriced wines. We found a much nicer, friendlier winery (Saucelito Canyon) down the road...read my review of that winery.
