Well worth an hour or so stop if you are driving along Route 49. Interesting collection of historic buildings and artifacts covering local history and the Gold Rush.

Very well put together. Loved the county jail! Unfortunately, we missed the Red Barn. Not sure why, but if you love old jails, be sure to see this one.

A great museum to catch up on local history of the area. Lots of displays and artefacts. I especially liked the old courthouse (still occasionally in use today) and the adjacent law library and judges chamber. The original jail can be visited and is still fully intact - Black Bart was imprisoned here and there is information and photographs about the local sheriffs who have held office over the years.
Friendly staff, good little gift shop and easy parking.
