Excellent food and service. A must! Many servers stopped by our table to check on everything. Squash blossom was incredible!

We spent our wedding night in one of the casitas twenty-one years ago and we love going back for special occasions or anytime we want to enjoy a delicious dinner in an enchanting environment, tucked away in the hills overlooking Fairbanks and San Dieguito.

We requested a table by the fireplace and it was a nice, private location. They have the most spectacular floral arrangements throughout the restaurant and Rancho Valencia property. The fireplace sported one of beautiful florals... perfect for our anniversary dinner!

A bottle of Veuve Clicquot was also perfect for our dinner and the waiter was excellent throughout the evening..... just present enough but not overbearing.

As starters, I enjoyed the squash risotto with a squash blossom on top which was filled with goat cheese and gently prepared tempura style and laid atop the risotto. A beautiful and delicious starter. My husband selected the lobster salad and it was both stunning and delicious (sorry I forgot to take pics). There were accents of grilled prosciutto and grilled peaches. Excellent savory/sweet additions with the generous portion of lobster meat.

For our entrees, I chose Iberico pork with morel mushrooms and sunchokes (I love morels and they are so hard to find in restaurants). The dish was beautiful and the portion generous both in pork as well as in morels... there must have been twenty morels... I was in heaven!! The pork was so flavorful and tender... almost with a salty crust of some type... so delicious.

My husband’s entree was the duck breast with grilled cherries.... perfection as well! Absolutely delicious and the presentation was artful.

For dessert (it was our anniversary after all), we enjoyed the chocolate soufflé which was very lovely both in taste and in presentation, although their method of opening it up to pour in the creme anglaise was to use a knife. My husband stepped in to use the Julia Child method of two spoons, gently pulling apart the center. Our sweet dessert server was too young to know who Julia Child was.... sigh... and in a culinary setting!! Oh well! Julia could rest well knowing we enjoyed a soufflé with thoughts of her!!❤️

Much to celebrate at Rancho Valencia last night, both for our anniversary and for the delicious meal, wonderful service, and beautiful setting. We will be back!!

We enjoyed dinner at Veladora while staying at Rancho Valencia in April. The halibut special with mushrooms was one of the best fish dishes I have ever eaten at at a restaurant. Pacing of the meal was off and service was slow. My husband ordered oysters to start and they brought a double order for some reason. When we asked about it, instead of leaving the oysters on the table, they took the whole tray away, and brought out a new smaller one with half of the oysters. I wonder if they served the oysters they set on our table to other guests? It was kind of weird. The pea soup was to die for, and my husband’s fish was great too. If we are ever in the area, we will dine at Veladora again.

WAS.... One of the Great dining experiences in one of the top restraunts in San Diego. UNFORTUNATELY....There has been some good and some bad (Mitch the sommelier and Marcia the best waitperson) turnover in the service staff which has disrupted the consistently excellent level of quality. But things are hopefully smoothing out and will improve. One sad change is a new Restraunt Events/Management staff as well - they used to be very customer service oriented and excellent at their jobs, but sadly there's new people who are short-sighted and arrogant. The character of Rancho Valencia is understated elegance without being pretentious or snotty - unfortunately the new Event team didn't get that memo.

With the attentive and welcoming weight staff setting the tone, our brunch just got better and better. Their lemon pancakes were mouthwatering and the fresh fruit was juicy and melted in your mouth. Best brunch I’ve had in CA.
