Rangeland Wines is tucked away in the corner of Nature’s Touch on Main St in Templeton. It has a perfect sized tasting area inside the market with additional tables outside amongst the plants and chickens. Wines were awesome. Zins were my favorite and their not yet released Rosé was very good as well. Laird and his tasting staff were very friendly and talkative. Friday and Saturday they serve food in their tasting room. Sliders, quesadillas and nachos. All very fresh tasting.
We had a great time, and the tasting room fits great in downtown Templeton. Laird gave some great recommendations for other wineries to visit and hey were awesome as well. Never had the pleasure to check out their winery in Paso, but if and when they move out there again we definitely will.

We heard about Rangeland Wines from our Designated Wine Driver (Bob Barker who was also awesome and I highly recommend) and we were not disappointed by the visit. You do need an appointment so be sure to either visit their website in advance or book with Bob Barker at Designated Wine Driver and ask Bob to sign you up.

Rangeland Wines is owned by Laird Foshay and his wife and this unique wine tasting experience begins by traveling up Laird's long driveway to his house. Once you arrive at the house, Laird and his dog Arrow welcomes you in and the first thing you'll notice is the stunning view from Laird's French doors that over look beautiful rolling mountains and hills. The view is absolutely breathtaking. After admiring the view, Laird starts with his wines, all of which are amazing. Laird will explain the intricacies and hard lessons learned during his transition to cattle ranching, grape growing and wine making from his previous life in the bay area. You can tell Laird has a passion for what he does and it is evident in every sip of his wines.

This is a truly unique wine tasting experience as you are not at a wine tasting bar with others but are instead invited to sit around the family table (I read a few other reviews about tasting on the back patio but it was rather hot while we were there and we were grateful to be inside). Laird is a wealth of knowledge of the area, wines, ranching, local artifacts, local wildlife, pretty much everything you could possibly have a question about, Laird more than likely has an answer.

If you buy some bottles from Rangeland and are lucky enough, you may be invited down into Laird's cellar where he stores the Rangeland wines as well as his personal collection. Laird has quite the collection in his personal stash that had me drooling the entire time we were in the cellar.

Long story short, if you want a more personal experience wine tasting in Paso and enjoy amazing wines, Rangeland should be on the top of your list.

When I did a google search for grass-fed beef for sale and found Laird Foshay at Ranchland Wines, I had no idea that I had hit the good karma jack pot!

I don't want to ruin his story for you, so you'll just have to go meet Laird and his spectacular Spanish Villa overlooking the "Tuscany" of central California.

He only produces a small quantity of his amazing estate wines and only harvests his herds of grass-fed beef and sheep twice a year.

The only way to obtain a half hour of wine tasting Heaven at Ranchland is to call or email Laird and receive an invitation with a map that includes several cattle gates along a winding dirt road through the beauty of the Paso Robles mountains.

Laird makes you feel like an old, family friend the way he welcomes you into his gorgeous villa as he brushes the morning work dust off of his jeans.

As your stunned by the beauty of his home and the breathtaking views, then comes the most mouthwatering wines.

Laird has the coolest stories filled with tidbits of everything you could ever want to know about lime in the Paso Robles earth that creates the acidity in his wines, to how to raise cattle, to the NorthAmerican Native Indians that first owned his land.

This is wine country at it's truest heart. Meeting Laird, his ranch home and having his wines and beef at my home is probably one of the greatest privileges in my life.

I can't imagine that Ranchland's membership availability will remain open for long. Maybe serendipity will smile on you and you can experience Ranchland for yourself.

We were treated to a private tasting with the winemaker - and it was an experience we will never forget! The wines are outstanding - so much so that we joined the wine club! Great find and can't wait to visit again! Thanks for such a special time! Many thanks to our driver, Mr. Bob Barker for arranging this tasting for us - you are the best!

We had the opportunity to taste Rangeland wines while in the barrel room at Denner Winery. We spent an hour with Paul the winemaker and his time and dedication to the profession is evident. Superb wines that should not be missed!
