We've stayed at this hotel periodically for 10 years while traveling between Arizona and California. It's a typically standard Marriott Courtyard. Lobby has been attractively updated since our last visit 3 years ago, and offers bistro food service instead of traditional coffee shop restaurant. Pool area is attractive. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Good freeway access 1/2 mile south of Interstate 10 on Cook Street exit.
The hotel is opposite the newer University of California and Cal State University campus. A number of newer restaurants are within 1/2 mile. Palm Desert's main drag and additional restaurants and services are several miles south.

Anyone who knows us know that we're Marriott loyalists as you know what you're expecting when you stay at a Marriott property. Or at least that's what we thought...

The lobby staff was very nice and the lobby looked fantastic. However, the rooms and the rest of the property looked a bit dated. (We know it's not the JW, but the JW was a bit dated as well and had their own issues.) We were in a room that had a jacuzzi tub in the corner, by the bed. It was kinda bizarre, but that's okay.... One of the ice machines was totally out of ice, and we ended up going to a different floor to fill the cooler because the ice machine in the other wing was difficult to locate. The elevators are not clearly marked either. Nothing like exploring the hallways with all your bags in tow. It is what it is, but for that, I would give it three rating.

The room was generally clean, that is, until we got into the restroom. Let's just say that the toilet needed some attention. I would be totally mortified if anyone stepped into my house and the toilet was not clean. You can definitely tell that the bowl has not been scrubbed in a while. We were only staying overnight, so we didn't report it. If it were a longer stay, we would have informed the front desk. Because of this, we knocked it down to a two rating.

My suggestion would be that a maintenance or housekeeping supervisor make regular spot checks to make sure that things are being cleaned properly. In other words, would they feel good about the standards they are presenting to their guests? It was something totally not expected in a Marriott, let alone in anywhere else.

Room Tip: Bring a compass...

Even though I booked TWO WEEKS ahead of my arrival, when I got to the hotel the reservation had NOT been confirmed! Luckily, the hotel had a room and it wasn't a total disaster. I will NEVER use this service again and I would NOT recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Do NOT book thru GetaRoom!!!

The room was average at best with the air right next to the work desk, While working you either freeze when the air is running or if you turn it off you boil. Size of the room and bathroom were ok nothing special.

The worst part of the hotel is the layout. The corridors are long and turning with very little signage to rooms, exits or back to the lobby. If is very easy to get turned around and confused. The other problem is there is very little parking in front of the hotel by the main address. If you have to park on the side or back good luck finding a way into the property. Entry doors are not clearly marked.

With so many properties in Palm Desert, Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage I would look elsewhere.

I'm pretty disappointed in this hotel & having the Marriott name behind it. Pool is diety, not enough chaise lounges at the pool, room furniture needs to be updated. The Palm Springs Courtyard is nicer
