While renting a beach house with the extended family, we decided to go out for breakfast. Searching TripAdvisor, we saw Mary’s Family Restaurant, only a mile from us, not only had a good rating but it was one dollar sign. This place turned out to be the typical American diner with several tables of locals. The grill and short order cooks were visible behind the counter. There was a tray of dinner-plate-sized cinnamon rolls waiting to be iced when ordered. We arrived before 9 on a weekday and our party of 8 was seated as soon as some tables were rearranged. The menu featured classic American and several Mexican breakfast items and one of the sides was refried beans. Several of us ordered the 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and breakfast meat (4 sausage, 4 bacon or half and half) combo. My husband ordered the chorizo omelet and our daughter-in-law the Huevos Mexicana. Everyone was more than satisfied with his or her choice. The hash browns came out with a lot crispy crust; the pancakes were huge and fluffy. The Huevos Mexicana was a delicious scramble of eggs, onion, green bell pepper, tomato, spinach and a bit of jalapeño to give a little kick. The house-made salsa was very tasty. The chorizo omelet was very interesting because the sausage was incorporated right into the egg mixture. Despite our large party and the fact that the restaurant filled by the time we ordered, we were served quickly and the food was hot. Our waitress was really hustling to make sure that everyone had everything he or she needed. We definitely had more than we could eat and got a great value for our money. Oh—there is lots of free street parking in the vicinity.

Off-season so it was pretty empty. I had spaghetti with meatballs (special) and it was great. Nice seat looking out the window to watch the comings and goings. Friendly waitress. No-fuss cheap eats.

The waitress was fabulous. It really felt like an old-time diner. My partner had breakfast, which he raved about. I had tortilla soup. It was a bit on the ordinary side.
