Unlike most cemeteries, Mountain View is alive with trails to explore, history to learn, concerts to hear and flowers to enjoy, especially during tulip season. There are tours available and if you are a Civil War or Oakland community enthusiast, you will be fascinated by the “movers and shakers” buried there right along with your neighbors.
Jazz at the Chimes is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, Muscicans come from all over to liven up the statues and people inside.
On Memorial Day and Veterans Day the staff makes the effort to bring people of the community together and special touches, like single red roses for the ladies, to musical tributes and speeches are evident everywhere.
My favorite is the tulip show when the best floral arrangers line the chapel with their creations usually depicting a favorite item or event.
Know the saying a view you “could die for”? Well, you don’t have to die to enjoy the spectacular views from the cemetery, just lace up those sneakers and head up the hill.
It’s the closest thing to heaven itself.
