It was great to re-connect with the area after many years. This seams to be a nice place by the marina where you can come out and take a stroll. It can be great for pics too--especially at sunset. There are some stores and plenty of restaurants where to eat and have a drink. I saw folks sitting by the bonfires, enjoying the cool evening by the bay. I think I even eyed a jazz club. We visited midweek, so there were hardly any crowds; on the contrary, it was nice and peaceful. Now, if it's crowds you're looking for, perhaps visit on the weekends.

This is Jack London territory. There are historic displays about and a statue of the writer at the shoreline along with a cabin he is said to have lived in.
The place has some attractive shops, restaurants and artwork, and hopefully it is busy in the tourist season. We visited in December so we had no crowds.

Super Cool Venue. Great place to get some exercise and take in some local sights and sounds when visiting from out of town.

This area has some cool stuff to look at but, overall it feels unfinished. There are lots of places that are closed down. We were there on a Tuesday and Wednesday and there weren’t many people around. It felt safe and quiet except for the train. The restaurants were pricey. The Waterfront hotel was nice. I would stay here again.

Go down to the waterfront, smell the fresh Bay air and see the boats bobbing in the harbor, it’s lovely and charming. Catch a bite at a nearby seafood restaurant: all good. But, wander a block or so off of the waterfront and you encounter a considerably mixed picture: Graffiti, lots of run down places, and the distinct feeling you shouldn’t walk around there alone at night.

It’s a neighborhood “in transition”, as they say.
