The hotel has undergone a significant remodel in the past year or so, which was badly needed. The result, however, did not transform what is a good business hotel but not a great hotel in one of California's most iconic locations.
The good: Rooms are updated and clean. Service is the usual Marriott excellence. Location is nice, with many restaurants within easy walking distance and also located very close to many historical buildings which give you a chance to understand Monterey's unique place in California history as its first capital city.
The bad: Not terrible, but there are many much nicer places to stay as long as you're in the Monterey/Carmel area. Hotels on Cannery Row allow you to be in walking distance of the world-famous Monterey Aquarium, for example. And there is nothing better than spending a few nights at the Monterey Plaza--one of my favorite hotels, period.More
