Great location and friendly front desk but rooms are dated and overpriced. No housekeeping unless you request and when we did, they didn’t come.
The nicer beach is not that easy to get to and not really walkable. They do provide you with chairs and umbrellas but no help with transportation. The room service we ordered was not good even though it was from the Nine Ten restaurant that is supposed to be very good. Disappointed in value for price.

Slept on a heavily stained duvet for 2 nights. Stained were from other visitors of the hotel. The hotel obviously doesn’t wash their duvets daily. There were washed out stains and obvious soiling signs that were fresh. It was absolutely repulsive! When we informed the front desk, yes they did come and change out the entire room and gave us free parking and waived the $20 a night resort fee, but the fact that we slept with a dirty duvet, no compensation can take away the icky feeling. The second duvet they brought in was also stained. It wasn’t as heavily stained, but non the less it was still stained. When I checked out the manager was very rigid and cold. As if my inconvenience wasn’t something she particularly cared about. She never once apologized. When she was done printing out my bill, she looked away and didn’t even send me off with a “have a nice day.” Her motive was to get me out as soon as possible so that I wouldn’t make a scene, as there were other visitors in the lobby. It’s very unfortunate that this hotel has major housekeeping issues, because it’s beautifully located and has amazing views from the 5th floor rooms. I won’t be back. Such a disappointment.

The Grande Colonial is my favorite place to stay when visiting San Diego and Front Desk Manager and Leisure and Hospitality expert Michelle De La Espriella my go-to person to ensure an amazing stay. I've really lost count at this point how many times I've stayed with them the last several years, but I haven't been disappointed a single time. Every one at the hotel is courteous, helpful, accommodating, and friendly. The hotel is full of charm, history, and character, the rooms luxurious and of course depending on the room, the view of the ocean spectacular especially at sunset as the location of the hotel is prime. I look forward to many more stays at the Grande Colonial.

Room tip: Ocean View is the best.

The hotel is beautiful with a great location and walking distance to so many nice stores, restaurants and the beach. The room itself was very nice and comfortable for the most part. The fridge did not actually get cold enough to keep water or soda cold, but there was ice available. The beds were comfortable with lots of good pillows. And that great ceiling fan over the beds made my night's sleep even better!!!

The bathroom was not the best. The half door on the tub/shower did not keep the water from splashing out on the floor. And there was no air circulation in the bathroom, so towels stayed damp even after hanging on the towel rods all night. The water pressure was very low...hard to rinse shampoo out of my hair.

The hotel staff seemed friendly and helpful. For the price they charge per night, I would expect a little improvement in the bathroom situation. But the view from the little balcony at the end of our hallway was nearly worth the price of the room. And stepping into the hallway and feeling that beautiful ocean breeze coming from the open window was so wonderful!!!

Room tip: Upper floors and that view of the ocean!!!

This hotel has a great location, and staff were very nice. Housekeeping was upon request only. The room was fine, but was very loud at night. I had to download a white noise app to sleep, and I usually have no difficulties. I had a room that faced the pool, where people gathered until quite late, but my colleagues said the street-facing rooms were even louder. It's a short walk to La Jolla Cove, and there's a nice running map provided by the front desk.
