My husband and I loved Water Grill in LA. We have to the restaurant in Costa Mesa about 5 times and gone to events in the meeting room 5 other times.
The ambiance is open and relaxed. I find it chilly so usually bring a sweater. The service has been uniformly stellar. The food is general has been stellar. I typically order the black cod and loved it except my last visit. First the fish was quite thick, not fully cooked. It clearly was not black cod. My husband and I both wonder if they picked up the wrong fish. I am hoping it was an innocent mistake although for the price those mistakes should not be made.
The menu and decor in the conference room was not up to the restaurant's standards. The service during 2 events was horrible. We had to go up to the waiters who were talking together to have the wine they had on their trays. The buffets were better than the served meals but beware they provide very small plates.
So this should always be a 5 star restaurant. It wasn't once.
I will go back to Wildfish as I never was served the wrong fish incorrectly cooked there.
Three star as some meals are 5 star and others 1 star.

Hubby and I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We enjoyed a private dining area off to the right of the front of the restaurant.

The food was very good, the service superb. The surf and turf was excellent. Filet was medium rare and lobster not overcooked.

The toast with cream cheese spread was, well... weird. The toast looked and tasted like it came from a loaf of Buttertop sandwich bread! The salad was good but the amount of dressing was on the light side.

Sides included macaroni and cheese which was good.

Would highly recommend this place. On a Saturday night this place was HOPPING. Looks like the hot new place to hang out near South Coast Plaza.

The catering staff should be commended for delivering superb service to a party of approximately 50 people.

Excellent service and food. Enjoyed good beer selection, appetizer recommendation by server - mixed batter fried items.

Sea bass was excellent as were the Brussels Sprouts.

Only down side was the mandatory valet.

Food was good, although the swordfish was dry. Service was very good. The atmosphere is casual. We had a group of five. One drink each, one entrée each, 3 salads, two soups, four sides shared, no desert; $97 each including tip. Average rating because of poor value.

The company must have invested a lot of money in this renovation of the former Scott's restaurant because it is an impressive looking facility. There is a partially covered open area which must be very nice in the summer, but a problem when it rains. If you like fish and seafood, there are many interesting choices. No corkage fee, which is very cool. Good wine selections. Service was good with our waiter, Michael, who made good suggestions. The Caramel Bread pudding and Banana sundae were good deserts. Dinner for four with a half carafe of wine plus tip was $90 per person. Very convenient for attending the theater with $6 parking valet.
