“Good value and suitable for backpackers or someone working”

This apartment is very reasonably priced, very new and fairly advertised. The upper level of the building is still not finished but this did not cause any inconvenience. There is a window from the staircase which overlooks into the second bedroom - some window coverings would solve this issue. There is AC only in the master bedroom. The main room was very hot, not sure if there is much insulation in the construction. We had difficulty finding cutlery, there were a few spoons near the sink.

It is best to bring one's own towels as we had to ask for some - which when they arrived were brand new, lovely and soft. We also had to request sheets. The water pressure in the bathrooms was very poor and it was difficult to have a warm shower. The light in the ensuite bathroom is good.

There is an old house at the back which our driver was meant to stay in. He was a flexible chap with no pretentions but it too rustic and dirty for him. He mentioned that he was planning to sleep in the van, at which point, we shifted our children into our bedroom and gave him the second bedroom. The next morning we moved out, even though we had booked a few nights.

This place is fine if you were working during the day or backpacking but it was not sufficiently comfortable for a family of four who were tired from a 16 day trip around SL and needed to relax. Great as a base to sleep but not to spend any extra time.

Across the road is a motor bike shop attracting all sorts of men around open fires at night. I'm not sure how safe it would be after dark, walking the streets. I would not recommend this place to a single female traveller, unless of course you are keen to meet local motor bikers!

Thanks for the feedback. We have demolished the old house in the back to accomdate new swimming pool. We have also finshed up the upper flow (4th floor) to create roof top space for extra entertainmnet, or relaxing (or sunbathing at a special request from one of frequent guests from Europe).

We have added plenty of extra linnen, and also covered up the glass windows to provide extra privacy.

As for the motor bike place, for those who are not familar with Sri Lankan culture, the motor bikers in Sri Lanka should not be comapred with the Harley Davidson bike gangsters you see in movies. (This is also not meant to be offensive to any HD bikers in the US or other western countries whom I have met and are perfectly fine men and women). In Sri Lanka motor bike is one of the primary mode of transportaion for most regular people. I would encourage visitors to get to know the culture and get to know the people before passing on judgment based on stereotypes from differnet cultures.
