My wife, another couple, and I recently ate at the Rocky Point on our way to Big Sur from Santa Cruz.

Contrary to the reviews below, our experience and food were excellent. We drove in off the highway and were seated at an oceanview table without reservations immediately. The staff was constantly asking us if we needed refills, more bread, etc. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. She stayed at our table answering questions about the history of the restaurant and the area. She even took our picture. The food was wonderful and warm. The clam chowder was excellent. The baked potato was huge. Make sure to get the cheddar butter.

Overall, we had great drinks, fun, and food with a great view.

I even bought an overpriced sweatshirt, I liked the place so much.

Good only for the view is definitely fitting. We made reservations and stood behind 2 other couples who were given tables without reservations, only to be told that we needed to wait in the bar.

The waitress wasn't only bad, she was extremely rude. The service was very slow - took over 45 minutes to get our food after we finally were given an opportunity to order. Food was cold and overpriced. $32 small steak, served cold and not cooked as ordered - normally I wouldn't have a problem paying this for a good steak - but when it is barely cooked and served cold it is simply a waste of money.

We wrote a complaint letter to the manager who only said that they were "busy that night with regulars" - basically they don't care about good customer service. We spent $160 for a terrible meal and horrible service.

If you plan on eating at this restaurant, expect that your experience will take at least 3 hours, your food will be cold and you will pay way too much for it. The view is really great - so I recommend that you only go for drinks in the bar (great outside deck).

This restaurant is no better than a Denny's. The only reason I would return would be to see the view. We went for lunch and found our table cloth to be dirty and the service is terrible. There were fly's in the window as you are looking at the fantastic view. Our food was just warm and nothing to brag about. There are much better restaurants in Carmel.

This was recommended to us by one of the locals. Since this restaraunt is located on a scenic highway, there are not a lot of other places out there, and its the only decent one there. The service was mediocre. Worst clam chowder I ever had, but it was quickly replaced by a great garden salad. The waiter was not too attentive, but the steak and fish were good. The food is definately overpriced. What this restaraunt is famous for is its views. You see huge waves crushing on boulders that are sitting in the water. Its great, especially at sunset.

We found this place by accident! Almost dorve by it as it is out in the middle on nowhere! Great views and good food. It is pricey but what in this part of Californis isn't? Stop at sunset and try to be romantic!
