This was the second stop on a larger brewery tour of East Bay, and it was definitely a highlight of the day. The beer flights are generous (6 5oz pours) but the beers are all incredibly varied and interesting so it is not a challenge to select 6 to try. There is a loft area with seating above the bar and a picnic-style open room with cornhole and community tables on the main floor. Saw several dogs and young children around since it was such a nice day, but had no issues with either while we were there! A good alternative if you enjoy Saisons and other German-inspired brews.

I am not partial to beers with flavors like chocolate or coffee. I much prefer a wide selection of beers with just traditional ingredients. These beers had wide range of flavors. Many I felt did not have enough body. Only nuts for snacks.

Spacious taproom with quite a few draught selections. I had the single IPA which was smooth yet robust. I also sampled the habanero slash other peppers which wasn't as hot as I suspected! Friendly bar staff and free parking rounded out a nice experience.

Just visited The Gillman Brewing Company in West Berkeley where they were having seasonal beer tasting along with a show of old vintage cars! I was pleasantly surprised by the large number of choices of unique beers on tap. We tried their Gillman Belgian Saison which was a full bodied beer with a pleasant fruity after tones, the Champ Rochaux which was a saison with nectarines. I really liked this beer the best. We also tried the Blackberry Hibou which was dark pink in color with a sour aftertaste. The Hibou Blanc was a BelgianWit beer which was also great. We tasted the Fear the Hornet, a Green Chile beer which had a strong smell of green chili’s and we avoided that.

We also had wood fired pizza which this couple from France were making in their portable pizza oven towed by a Uhaul. The pizza was very different- very thin with a strong flavor of Brie. It was quite different than what we are normally used to in the Bay Area. We then walked behind the brewery in their parking lot where a whole bunch of old vintage cars were on show by their owners. A lot of Chevy impalas in impeccable condition and some modified as low riders. There were other vintage cars too. Overall a great place to visit if you are a beer aficionado!w

From the decor, to the incredible beers, this is a gathering place and a must visit for beer lovers. The proprietors have done a great job, creating and building out the space themselves. Their hands on approach is the central theme and creates a pleasant experience. Not to mention, very dog friendly and food trucks are outside often.
