“Quaint and quiet”
Reviewed 15 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We booked the cottage for a long weekend stay which included 6 adults and 3 young children. The cottage was lit up and warm when we arrived which was very welcoming. The cottage itself is very quaint with a good sized living room and kitchen. We found the space fine for 6 adults although the living room could have done with an extra chair or two.

There are 2 decent sized double/twin bedrooms and a smaller double one and the beds were very comfortable. The cottage has a fantastic garden which is secure so great for letting children run around in. We also appreciated the fact that there was washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and washing powder supplied so we didn't have to bring/buy our own (as i have found with many other cottages).

The only one slight downside was the shower - the water pressure and temperature was very temperamental. However, it wasn't a major issue and definitely wouldn't put us off returning in the future.

“Another great stay at Violet Cottage”

My husband and I returned to Violet Cottage at Easter and had another very enjoyable stay in this cosy, comfortable cottage, with our 2 dogs Elvis and Millie. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated, is well equipped, has a great log burner for chilly nights and a lovely back garden for when the sun shines. Booking is easy, the cottage always well presented and help on hand if you need it. With loads of walks from your doorstep, great beer in the village pub and lots of things to see and do in the area it's a great location for a holiday and Ancrum is just off the A 68 Edinburgh-Jedburgh road. Just one tip, the cottage sleeps six but has only one bathroom and a medium sized kitchen table so six adults may be too many.

“Beautiful House with Good Facilities”
Reviewed 5 February 2012 for a stay in February 2012

this is a lovely house and I am surprised that there are no reviews on line ! The house has been renovated to a very high standard and is very comfortable - writing this in the beautiful lounge using the free wi-fi. The rooms are spacious and comfortable - only single beds which are very narrow if you are used to double or king (they can be put together but there is still the "join" to deal with. All the equipment/towels etc are new or in very good condition.

The only thing that lets it down is the village of Ancrum itself it is very pretty and for me lacks facilities - there is a village store and a pub which is pretty much for locals but nowhere you can walk to get something to eat. Jedburgh is about 3 miles away so at night unless you are prepared to drive then it is back to eating in and a busman's holiday for those of us who cook at home.

The bedrooms are upstairs and the stairs are very steep as you would expect in a property of this age

If none of this is an issue then I recommend Violet Cottage wholeheartedly
