We booked this hotel last minute. Got good deal, good room, well trained staff, accommodating and sweet. Linens were a challenge as they seemed dirty and stained. We requested for a change and it was done within minutes. No other hunch. Warm Water, swift room service. Overall a very good experience.

I would like to say sincere thanks to entire management and staff of Hotel Vakratunda. Our one day trip to Mcleodganj was quite memorable Rooms was quiet spacious and clean .We always ordered food at our room. Thier room service was very quick. Even we were at 3rd floor with Naddi sunset point view, the entire staff was quick to respond. Nearby visiting areas are Dal Lake ,Bagasu Nath Fall and Temple, Dalai Lama temple and St John's Church.I will surely visit this hotel in future again and recommend others as well.

Room Tip: ask for a sun set view room as most of the time traveller will reach in the afternoon.

Hotel is very different in the sense that it is made entirely of iron, wood and ply....not of concrete but very stable except the creaking floor boards someplaces....almost every room has balcony and the view is awesome of the mountains both with and without snow....nights were very cold even in March.....got car parking and rooms are good but not that big.....staff friendly and helpful...

They do nothing to comfort the guests. No requests are entertained. No proper power backup. We had to spend whole night shivering as there was no power due to which heater could not work. But they still don't accept its their fault. Pathetic view from 1st floor. Also the balconies are common for 3 rooms. No privacy is there. You cannot even put aside your curtains as everyone from parking to the road can see inside your room. The room walls are made of wooden board due to which all the voices from corridors keep coming inside the room.

We had booked Hotel Vakratunda based on it's ratings on a travel website. In terms of it's location, it is quite and secluded and from it's initial appearance, it looked like a nice hotel with a great view of the mountains. Upon entering the hotel, we were greeted well by the staff and the check-in was swift. They also gave us the option to choosing rooms from the ones available. The hotel doesn't have a lift so aged people would want to stick to the lower floors. Out of all the rooms we saw, one had an unbearable smell and one of the rooms had extremely smelly washrooms. We noticed that the bed linen and towels were very dirty (as if someone had already stayed in the room and they weren't changed since then) and requested to change, their staff at the front desk was very resistant and was unwilling to come over and change the linens. Extremely unhelpful and uncaring staff at the hotel. For the breakfast on the following day, the food was edible at best and when we ordered coffee, we were served and upon mentioning it to the staff that it is not as per expectations and requested to make it right, his response was "this is how black coffee is" as if we were first time coffee drinkers. After that one experience, we stuck to eating in nearby hotels and even the small stall next to the hotel served better quality food to eat. In terms of the upkeep and maintenance of the hotel, worn out and creaky wooden flooring to an extent that it was risky in a couple of patches. The lighting was very scarce at night making it a challenge to move between floors. On the day of check-out (we had an early one) we requested for a cup of tea for an elderly member of my family to which we got an initial response "we haven't even started the gas in the kitchen and breakfast will be available later" but had to request them to arrange for one. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone traveling to McLeodgunj - the neighboring hotels looked much better. The hotel has a lot of potential in terms of the views it has to offer but it seriously lacks hospitality standards.

Room Tip: If with elderly people, stick to lower floors. If with a young group, go for the rooms with common balcony.
