Several performances during our stay included The Original Flathoof Stringband, Lazy Goat Stringband, among others. Many storytellers and historical stories.
Many craft “stations “ that demonstrate how early Americans came to this area. My favorite was making baskets and quilting. Husband was impressed with the woodworking and the smokehouse.
Some of the “stations” were not staffed this day. May have been due to the high temperatures (about 100 degrees F).
The evening performance required an extra admission price but was worth it.

We started with a nice reasonably priced buffett at the Skillet Restaurant within the Center. Then made our way around the many artisan demonstration shops (around 15 or more) till 5 pm. There is something for everyone in our group which comprises of adults to teens and kids. You can easily spend a few hours here. We got a discount off our admission with our prior day tixs for the Cavern visits.

Spent half a day visiting with the different craftsmen, exhibits. Some were better than others . The coppersmith was outstanding, as was the chair caning, the blacksmith and the wire jeweler.Broommaker was very good also. Leatherworking, stained glass, woodcarver, pottery, and apothecary were seemingly disinterested in their visitors. Knife shop was terrible. The planting all around were interesting, and the labeling of them was very educational, The highlight was the musical entertainer, very witty and talented. Played guitar, banjo, dulcimer, flute, hog stick and a 26": handsaw-- fantastic.

We all enjoyed this wonderful half day. Wish we had more time. The doll maker Eileen is worth the price of admission. Set down and not only watch her make the corn dolls but listen to the story of the area More American’s should be like her. You will met many fine artists.
