“Relax, and admire the view in comfort!”

Just spent a superb couple of weeks in Villa Rental Rural in Montefalcione. Our party ranged in age from 12 to 59 - we all loved it. Ralph (your host) will look after you very well - nothing is too much trouble. The villa was delightful. Very clean, well equipped, and fully furnished. The rooms were lovely and spacious (three rooms with large double beds and one room with twins). Plenty of bathroom facilities for 8 people. No wi-fi at present, but we all had excellent 3G and 4G signals!

Ralph obviously takes pride in his villa, and it shows. The pool is well looked after, and we all loved plunging in and doing our daily 100 lengths! When you're sitting outside by the pool, on the very spacious terrace (n.b. lots of padded chairs and sun loungers provided), looking out at the mountains all around you, with a glass of chilled Prosecco in your hand, you feel very contended indeed!

We've stayed at many gites and villas in Italy, Spain and France, and this rates up there with the best we've encountered. The location, up in the hills, but only a few minutes from the Autostrada, means you can zoom off to see the sites of the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Herculaneum (all within the hour), and then return for a swim and to watch the sun going down behind the mountains opposite. Naples airport is also just an hour away.

Cooking at the villa is a pleasure, as the spacious kitchen is very well supplied with a large selection of glasses, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans, etc. You could feed 20 people very easily, but hopefully you won't have to! Local pizzerias in the village are good, and there's a gem of a restaurant called the Osteria which we enjoyed.

What more to say? Plenty of towels provided, along with linen etc. Very warm and welcoming host who is fluent in Italian and English. We arrived tired at about 8:30 in the evening and were very pleased to discover milk in the fridge, fresh bread, and fruit - a lovely touch. This is a superb place to relax and to make your base as you explore the region.

“Panoramic View, Central Location to Explore Campania”

The Villa features panoramic views of the mountains and villages surrounding Montefalcione, many spacious rooms, several comfortable living areas, three full bathrooms, a large kitchen and a huge patio. The villa comfortably sleeps eight people as there are four bedrooms, three have queen/king size beds and one has twin beds. The master bedroom features a private bathroom. Even though the villa has more than ample living space on two levels, most of our time was spent on the oversized patio that also features a small pool and in the large living area leading out to the patio.

The owner/manager Ralph Pagliuca provided us a detailed review of the operational aspects of the villa and had recommendations for entertainment and services in the surrounding area. Ralph was readily available for questions throughout our stay.

The villa is a 15 to 20 minute walk to the center of town. There are numerous cafes and restaurants to explore. A walk through town provides one with an appreciation of the ebb and flow of a small mountain village in Southern Italy. Interestingly the most popular Italian feast day in Boston, the feast of St. Anthony, originates from Montefalcione as many immigrants and their subsequent generations reside in the Boston area.

For us (my wife and three friends) the villa was a central location for us to explore the wineries, food and historical sites of Campania. With the assistance of our driver, Gaetano Petrillo of The Wine Bus, we visited 14 wineries, a buffala di mozzarella plant, an artisan fig store, other local stores, the mushroom festival in Cusano Mutri, the annual festival in Montemiletto, Capri, the Amalfi Coast, Pasteum and Pompeii. All the sites we visited were for ther most part an hour drive from the villa (of course with the exception of Capri).

Helpful hints: do not be alarmed by large noises in the morning echoing off the mountains because it seems as if every day a town or a frazione (a small part of a town) celebrates a feast day with morning fireworks. The fireworks are repeated in the evening and from the patio one can enjoy the display.

We had one evening thunderstorm - thunder reviberates off the mountains in a most imposing way as we never have heard such loud thunder. Our electricity went out during the storm but was quickly restored via adjusting the circuit-breakers. Fortunately Ralph had prepared us for the storm.

When driving to Napoli to catch the ferry to Capri make sure you compensate for the miserable traffic in Napoli.

Lastly, when you are relaxing in the morning with your coffee overlooking the mountains and neighboring villages and frazione be careful that you do not get so mesmermized that you let the day drift from morning to afternoon because there is so much to explore in Campania!

“Missing that mountain view!!”

The villa was everything and more than we could expect. The arrival was very easy as Ralph had taken the time to contact me regularly, the two weeks before, to ensure we had good directions etc. The villa is very well maintained and to a high standard. Little things like ensuring there were enough pool towels, to providing tea, coffee, bread, milk, wine! etc were nice touches. The villa was cleaned halfway into our stay and towels refreshed and replenished. The bedrooms are a very generous size as are the bathrooms, and well maintained. Ralph cleaned the pool regularly and was a great source of information for local restaurants, bars, shops etc. He was available by mobile but allowed us privacy too. We had three children with us and the pool was used constantly. The area is beautiful and we travelled to Amalfi, Sorrento, Rome, Naples, Caserta, Avellino, Vesuvius and Pompeii. The walk into the next village takes approx. 15/20 minutes and that is with children too. We had a very relaxing two weeks at the villa, which is what a holiday is all about - without any complications!! I am missing the mountain view already!!

“Beautiful place - highly recommended!”

We stayed here two weeks in August 2012, and were extremely pleased with everything. The owners Ralph and Judith are friendly, genuine souls, and they went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful holiday; from the moment we arrived until the minute we departed. The villa had every item we could wish for, and a lot more besides, and we found it to be considerably larger than it appears in the photos. It was beautifully clean upon our arrival, and we found it to be a relaxing, comfortable and welcoming place.

The villa is ideally situated, with a nice quiet location, yet just e few minutes’ drive to local supermarkets, shops, and restaurants. It is fully enclosed within its own grounds, and entry is gained via personal electric gates into a long driveway, which all adds to its grandeur. Naples, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Benevento, Paestum, Amalfi coast, and many other places of interest are all within easy driving distance. We made regular visits to the nearby town of Montefalcione, where there were some nice little shops, bars and restaurants. I made a daily morning jaunt to a small bar here called ‘The Dragonfly’ to enjoy the delicious coffee, and use the wireless network.

We used the pool several times daily, and Ralph cleaned and serviced it regularly, which was reassuring. The wonderful mountain views from the large patio area enhanced our relaxation experience, and the sunsets were truly wonderful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and wouldn’t hesitate to rate it as ‘highly recommended’.
