Ended a two week Kerala trip here. Found hammocks, a seductive saltwater pool. Fruit trees everywhere-- mangos and jackfruits dropping on my kids' heads. I loved the restaurant's pickle bar(evenings), and jam bar (mornings), from the hotel's own fruits. The curd is from their grass fed jersey cows. So good. Whenever I craved a glass of bubbly--not sold at Marari b/c government ban--I just ate more curd. :>

People are great: Shreya, the owner's daughter, and Benny, a local artist, who taught us tabla. Santhosh, from the Ayurvedic Clinic, showed the kids how to make medicines with cast iron implements. Shortly after we had checked out, a family member was hospitalized. Someone from Marari, Girish, came to the hospital, and acted as my fixer. He was very kind, and even refused my husband's offer to tip him.

Beach is lovely, glassy calm in the morning, but later in the day be careful: a steep drop off--the 2016 typhoon caused it--churns with an undertow. If you have kids, watch them.

Speaking of eyeballs, Malayalees on the beach weren't bothered by women in bathing suits. So that was nice. Can't say the same for the horny middle-aged white men though.

After a hectic South India tour we chose Merari Beach Resort to relax for a few days before our flight home. We were welcomed by the lovely JollyJoy (aka Elsa ). She explained the ethos of the resort and gave us a comprehensive guide and map. Later in our stay JollyJoy took time to suggest walks and trips into town for us. She deserves every recognition for her devotion to making guests feel welcome and comfortable during their stay.
Every member of staff we met throughout the break was genuinely interested to hear if we were enjoying our break, such lovely people.
The day we arrived the resort had just got back their alcohol licence, so beer etc was freely available in the restaurant, by the pool or in the bars set amongst the palms.
At 4pm tea was served on the lawn, a nice touch.
All in all, a fabulous place to relax made even more special by the people who work there

A perfect ending to a fabulous week in Kerala. The staff were all exceptional and friendly - great attention given to relaxing while here. Check In was seamless and fast each member of the team immediately recognized us and knew our villa number. We stayed in an awesome Garden Villa which was enormous - bed was comfortable and the outside shower was very refreshing. There were too many activities to do if you wanted beach time - beach was great, public, and had a lifeguard on duty. The Ayurvedic Spa was exceptional especially the outside massage. Would probably opt for Pool villa next time to focus on private natural lounging, tanning, and swimming . We very much enjoyed the Farm Garden Cooking Lesson given by Albie as she’s a five star chef and person. This was definitely the highlight of our stay. The restaurants provided a great selection of local vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes which were fabulous. I would definitely recommend to all and look forward to returning.

We spent 2 days at Marari and enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness of the team working there. The hotel is located at the beautiful quiet and lonesome beach. The beach is extremely clean. Life guards are there in case of any problems.
The hotel area is huge. It is almost a park with palms etc. you will have always a quiet sun bed with the next guest minimum 50m away.
We enjoyed our time a lot and can only recommend the place.
General Manager and Chef are always around and are talking to the guests to get their feedback.
We had booked a pool villa and were happy about that decision as it gets extremely hot during the day. So a place to relax was very welcome!

I am aware that many people enjoy this large site with its cabins. But like so many visitors to Kerala, the lack of alcohol does dampen my enthusiasm for the ' good life' Wonderful staff tried to interest us in the small bars in the grounds, but NO one ever went near, so there was no social interaction with other guests except at the pool . Visits to the magnificent beach were spoilt by the lack of any amenities within 100 yds- no umbrellas, no seating of any kind.

A great idea, not working for me.

Room Tip: Get a cabin with its own pool.
