From the outside (including the very ordinary driveway), the Grand Soluxe may look austere like any other high rise (office blocks) that dot the landscape around the area. However, the interior is a very different story. The reception foyer is grand and large, with pleasing décor and layout, providing a convivial ambiance. The reception staff is equally active and welcoming and the check-in was smooth. The one-bed room suite was really large with a living room about double the size of the bedroom, with a separate toilet. The ensuite bathroom was large and well-appointed with separate bath and shower options. All the necessary toiletries and other essentials including coffee making and ironing facilities and a safe are provided for, topped off by a work station with its own computer and fax machine in the living room . The wifi is free and reliable, with good speed.

The hotel has a number of restaurants and breakfast is served in the Rose Café across from the reception area. The choice is diverse and should satisfy most tastes. However, the lunch and dinner are quite sumptuous, and perhaps one of the best buffets we have encountered in terms of both the range and quality of items served (rotated regularly). The open kitchen at the café adds to the ambiance but can get a bit noisy at times. The gym on the other hand is quite basic but there is enough equipment to keep the diehards ticking. There is no swimming pool and the hotel does not have any grounds, but jogging in the streets around the hotel should not pose any danger.

The hotel may looks very isolated and remote in the beginning, but with a little home-work, orientation and exploration proves otherwise. There are plenty of restaurants, massage places, supermarkets, movie hall (IMAX) and diverse local outlets within easy striking distance on foot. The streets behind the IMAX (across the street from the hotel) are full of surprises, with high end fashion and accessory outlets and a number of eateries. The well-known MixC shopping mall is about fifteen minutes away on foot. The level of service is more than adequate. The staff are active and eager to please, but are limited by their English.

I arrived at midnight, very tired after 2 flights from the UK. Taken straight to room to sleep in a massive bed. Very comfortable bed and room, thick carpets. Internet access in room was a problem until they sent wifi to the room and a guy up to see that it was working. Restaurant excellent a good choice of breakfast and other food.Friendly, helpful staff who all spoke some English which was useful! 10 minute walk to town and local shops.

From the outside the hotel is just another multi-storey box of a building, but on the inside it is very grand and of five star+ quality. Amazing foyer and reception. The rooms are huge with spectacular bathrooms. Public areas and corridors exude quality. We ate in the cafe and although we were the only diners the food was good. We had a problem with arranging onward transport from Nanning but the concierge was very helpful and made several phone calls on our behalf. Well placed for Lang Dong bus station if onward travel happens to be by bus which ours was.
