We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Riverview rooms were quaint, clean and well presented. Plenty of space for two mattresses for the kids. Always having a self catering section to the room. Pool was lovely and clean and kids enjoyed the swim. Will certainly look at an extended stop over next time

Lovely setting in the bush. The gardens have been beautifully maintained. We were grateful for the tea / coffee / biscuits that we were able to enjoy on arrival. Our ordered meals were home cooked and met our need after a long day of travel. The chalets were comfortable and the showers hot... could not have asked for anything more.

Good day michelleg40,
Wow, thank you so much for the super rating and your kind, encouraging words of appreciation.
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the compimentary tea/coffee and biscuits and the your meals filled the necesary gaps! We value the time taken to write your thoughts which are most encouraging for all of us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge. We remain with a skeleton staff compliment and so those here are working very hard to keep the wheels rolling and in the same pristine condition that you found it.
With much apprecation,
Kind regards,
Mike & Anne (West)

Woodlands was the perfect stopover on a long road trip with our two dogs. Clean, peaceful and calm! Just what we needed. The only small thing that could be improved upon is the internet speed. The ladies waited for us and used their initiative to move us to another unit a distance from where another family with a dog was to stay!

Good day mfrost2021,
Thank you so much for taking the time to rate and review us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge.
So very happy to hear that the stop meets your needs both for your precious furry little animals as well as a reasonable travelling distance from the start of your journey. We do all work hard to try and maintain the peaceful, clean anmd tanquil setting that you found it to be in and appreciated so much!
Sorry about the internet speed-- we have a 20MB supply but also find that it can be affected by weather conditions in town, the source, when power outages occur there. So sorry!
We do value our staff here so much and they so love being able to offer the best service they can all of the time. They will appreciate your comments about them using their own initiative! Thank you!
With much appreciation and kind regards,
Mike & Anne West (Owners)

We arrived after dark. We couldn't see a thing. As far as I recall, the only WiFi available was at the reception area. We had rented a cottage, but it was bare of bed sheets and didn't appear very clean, so we decided to camp. The ablution area was quite nice, except for the lack of hot water. The pool did not appear to be in use.
We had ordered food. It was handed to us cold, in metal takeout containers. The reception staff appeared surprised that we hadn't brought along our own microwave. We ended up using a single microwave to heat up about 15 servings, one by one, after transferring them to paper plates, The food was tasty, although some guests didn't get what they had ordered (with no explanation).

Room tip: Try not to arrive after dark.

Good day diane_chehab,
So sorry for the delay in responding.
Thank you for your rating and rather puzzling review of us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge.
So sorry you arrived in the dark as the grounds of Woodlands are really lovely and appreciated by so many of our guests who have travelled before you and since. Strange that you could not "see a thing" because we have good, subtle lighting all over the property for our guests benefits, security as well as avoiding light pollution for you and our neighbours.
Most campers, however, do usually travel with the necessary lighting that they would require on a bush adventure.

Our WIFI supply is very good with 20GB being received. Even WhatsApp videos calls can be made from around the swimming pool area and in all the en-suite Riverview rooms! Not many camping grounds or even lodges in Botswana offer free WIFI other than at the reception but we here at Woodlands have gone the extra mile for our valued appreciative guests and installed boosters all around the property for guest’s conveniences.
Sometimes we feel that perhaps the night sounds of animal life and crackling fires would be better entertainment than the dreaded social media that keeps so many heads bowed over to!

It was winter when you visited and so obviously there was no-one in the pool swimming but it is still well maintained and has been for the past 21 years. It is still in very good, in fact, immaculate condition. The pool pump gets switched off at midday every day to save on power as we as a business are still “tip-toeing” through this Covid era.
As was mentioned to other members in your group your discussions and disappointments needed to be directed to your group leader about the “bare” chalets that were booked for your use with a “mattress only” to be supplied. Our chalets have been closed since the start of Covid -19 in April 2020 and were opened especially for your group and have since been closed again.
They were spotlessly cleaned for your group’s arrival. NO LINEN WAS PROVIDED as was agreed with your group leader as a discounted price was given to her because the rooms were not fully equipped as normal ---
The additional service that was offered with limited staff on the ground points to that fact that we should not have gone to the trouble of trying to assist your party.

We are a self-catering establishment, marketed as such, and do not have a restaurant or bar. However, as a service to our tired travelling guests we do offer pre-prepared delicious meals which are packaged in tin foil take-out containers (usually for their own heating).
The meals were not handed to you cold because as you say most travellers do not travel with a microwave. Our normal practise for campers is to heat the meals in the “single” microwave that is in the reception. The ladies on duty that evening worked very hard heating all 15 of those meals one after the other to provide the service.
Interestingly enough all the meal dishes were found empty in the bins next morning which indicates that most, if not all, enjoyed their meals! Again, a communication breakdown between your group leader and our staff in attendance on the night as the breakdown of specific meals required and for whom was not received.

However, we do still value your rating and comments as it always gives me, Anne West the owner, the opportunity to check thoroughly why such ratings or comments are made and evaluate what areas should be attended to and/or corrected.
Thank you again and we trust that the rest of your holiday through Botswana was trouble free and enjoyable?

Regards,
Mike & Anne West (Owners)

Always our go-to stop when travelling through Botswana 🇧🇼
Immaculate camping facilities on grass next to the pool or bush campsites, we like both. A-frame chalets that share the ablutions which are big, spotless and have great showers, or very nice chalets with en-suite bathrooms, take your pick!
Loads of birds so you can wake up to the dawn-chorus and do some bird viewing too.
Friendly staff, braai packs and wood available at reception.
Nice swimming 🏊‍♂️ pool too.

We stopped over in Woodlands on the way back to SA and it was the best decision we could have made. Accommodation in the Riverview rooms was excellent (even though the river was dry in October) with everything provided and everything functioned well. We opted for host Mike's pre-prepared frozen food for supper (we chose curried chicken) and we can honestly say it was fantastic. The gardens and lush green lawns look like they come out of a gardening book. Excellent birding for the birders, although I was disappointed it rained on the morning we left so the birds were in hiding.
This place is not to be missed and it is worth going to Botswana just to stay here. There is a sparkling pool, birds walks and other hiking routes, but most impressive was the value for money.

Hello tonykY3430FB,
What a wonderful review and such a great rating-- thank you so much.
So glad that you stopped over with us and that you felt it was the best decision you could have made! Makes us very happy to hear comments like that! We do work hard to keep creating and maintaining the property in the condition that you found it. It is our little patch in Africa for which we are caretakers of!
Glad you enjoyed the chicken curry but sorry for your sake that it rained! Obviously we were very glad for the rains!
We trust that you have wonderful memories of Botswna and that you will be back to visit again soon and that you won't leave Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge off your itinerary?
Kind regards,
Mike and Anne West (Owners)
