A cozy wine bar with a nice patio out front. Chato Cruz is very friendly, speaks good English and is knowledgeable about the local and regional wines. Ask him about his own wine available in limited quantities. The food is primarily platters of meats, cheeses, olives and the like - very good and reasonably priced.

To find Chato's wine bar, face the church on the Plaza and go up the street to your right (San Martin) about 2 to 3 blocks and it is on the right side of the street. Find a favorite wine and buy a bottle or two to take home with you!

This is a delightful wine tasting opportunity . As an Irish tourist it was, alas, not feasible to buy any of the keenly priced excellent wines. Chato is a wonderfully courteous host who is well informed , speaks excellent english and articulates his love and understanding of the various grapes and wines of this very interesting region which is approx 1650 metres above sea level. The atmosphere is sociable and on the two nights when we visited, we met a selection of nationalities and, fortunately the most common communication was English. Congratulations to Chato and thank you for your hospitality. Wines and appropriate snacks are not expensive. Please beware of the address in some guidebooks - Chatos is a short walk from the main square at 223 San Martin - if in doubt then ask and do not miss the opportunity of visiting this venue.

Oscar is running his place, doing his job with enthusiasm. You feel that and enjoy his wine selections in the same way. It’s great to meet people like him who intends to improve continuously. We had a rough day in Cafayate, but Chato’s wine bar made us forget about it.
He has a new address “San Martin 223”, very close to main square. Don’t forget to try his own wine.
