We didn’t have enough time to visit the national park and decided to visit this nice private reserve instead. Of course the place is for tourists and the lemurs are more “domestic” than “wild” ...but the place is really great though

A nice place to get a better view of the lemurs in the area. Good picture opportunities. A pity that some tourists really try everything to be on the picture with these poor animals.
The crocodile part is more a zoo, which is exactly the reason why I came to Madagascar: to avoid the zoo. The island is nice, if there are no other tourists, the crocodiles to be avoided.

Lemurs are here on a large island, and as they will not cross water, their island is their home and sanctuary. Accustomed to human visitors, the lemurs can be enticed to jump on visitors’ shoulders, heads, and backs for the reward of a bite of banana. We were able to see – up close – many subspecies of lemur and sifaka. Visitors board a dugout canoe to row across approximately 30 feet of shallow stream to access the lemurs’ island. The guides (required – a small fee is sought and you’ll want to add a tip) speak several languages and are quite knowledgeable about the lemurs, chameleons, sifakas, birds, plants and trees. The opportunity to pet and play with the lemurs made this visit an absolute top highlight of our six-week trip! Getting to hear all the lemurs’ varied vocalizations was a treat. Nearby is a large garden and sanctuary with captive crocodiles and – wow! – a fossa! Fossas are the top predator in Madagascar, an odd looking combination of what appears to be the face of a big dog and the body of a mountain lion, yet this tree-climbing predator is part of the weasel family. This pleasant visit was included in our tour by Linah at Authentic Madagascar Tours.

Pleasant visit of the lemurs' island but the guide could be better trained and have more things to say.

Get yourself a good guide and go out early morning, late afternoon and about 6.30 at night. It is surprising what wildlife you see
