We arrived in El Chalten without any real plans of where to hike or eat, but Anita at Nothofagus was so helpful - settled us into simple clean rooms, provided a nice afternoon tea, recommended some great restaurants, and advised and arranged great hiking, maps and all! Really made our visit easy and simple and we could make the most of only a few days in this most beautiful area of Argentina!
The town of El Chalten has the feeling of a remote outpost, the small streets teeming with backpackers and owner run restaurants and shops.
The inn was very quiet and well run, the rooms simple but clean, some have shared bathrooms, but we never really noticed anyone else, the common areas are cozy, and the breakfasts were very nice, fresh buns and good coffee etc.
The hiking is impressive, the views grand, we were lucky to have excellent weather, just a few clouds to set the mood over the peaks.
It was one of our favorite stops on our three week hiking/touring trip!More
