“Looking to stay away? Then stay away from here!”
Reviewed 25 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

If this place was on Britain's Got Talent it would get four big, fat 'NOs'!

- NO cleanliness or hygiene standards
- NO heating, when it was only 3 deg C outside (in April)
- NO internet as advertised
- NO landlord presence or Customer Service

Having arrived about 11.30pm for a 3 night stay, we found the place so disgusting that we left at first light still dressed in the previous day's clothes. We felt it only fair to ask for reimbursement of the other 2 nights, but the absent landlord only consented to reimburse 1 night and has not responded to further emails since.

We note an earlier management comment on here where the landlord has a pop at young people who complained about the lack of customer service; his argument being that were just youngsters so what could they possibly know? Well, since we are somewhat more advanced in years no doubt he won't be able to use the same argument this time.

However, since he clearly likes to provide unprofessional retorts to some of the comments on here, we've included just some of the pictures of what greeted us on arrival so that you can make up your own minds; and any subsequent comments to this review will therefore be irrelevant. What you will see In the photos is apparently just after complete redecoration for the summer and a full clean before our arrival (the landlords words, not ours). You have been warned!

“Great Location, comfortable as advertised.....”

My partner and I took our dog with us for a long weekend over May Bank Holiday to stay at River Cottage. As advertised it is very small but also very comfortable/clean/well appointed. The cottage is an old wash house I believe and the use of space is excellent. The beds are comfortable and pull out to a double if needed. The shower and toilet, again, in a confined space do the job well (Water was not always piping hot in shower but was a comfortable temperature). Kitchen clean and well appointed. The garden is beautiful if weather permits and location is stunning in the south of the Black Mountains so excellent for hiking with cottage as a solid base. The property is accessed by its own gate so you also have privacy. The town of Crickhowell is lovely, not dissimilar to Hay-on-Wye but somehow less pretentious. The only problem we had was that I did not receive directions or a post code to the property and they had not heard of it in the information centre. It didn't take long to locate though as, unsurprisingly, it was on the river and the locals new it. All in all, as advertised, good value and a lovely weekend....

“Cosy cottage - great location.”

Great little (and I mean little) cottage. The size of the cottage is reflected in the price so it is unfair to criticise this. If you're spending all day out and about, and plan on eating out most nights then this is ideal as a base for 1 or 2 people (we were 2 and a dog and we managed).

The only minus was the lack of parking and the fact that the owners said we could park in the pub car park next door, but the pub landlord (who was a nice chap) wasn't too happy with us parking there!

“New year's Stay 2015”

I stayed at the cottage for 3 nights over new years with a friend. The cottage is right in the center of town and next to a very nice local pub. In terms of location it is perfect! The cottage is basic and small so if you are looking for something more it is probably not the place for you but it was perfect for the two of us. It was very quaint and easy access to everywhere in the area. The parking was a bit of an issue at times but we managed to find free parking which was about a 5 min walk away. the cottage was not the cleanest but it is more of a rustic cabin type feel. The owners were also nice and very helpful. Overall it was a very nice stay and I would come back again!

“Cosy Cottage”
Reviewed 6 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Kitchen has all that you need for cooking.
Hot power shower.
Garden lighting a nice feature.
Close to local shops and pubs.
Would suit 2 rather than 3 people.
