“Great location, cottage let down by the basics”
Reviewed 20 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Overall we enjoyed our time in Skye, which is a lovely magical place. The setting for Hebridean View is stunning and the range of facilities provided at the cottage is good. In particular it was nice and warm, had good quality broadband and the Jacuzzi bath was very welcome for a good soak after a days walking.

However, our experience was let down by a lack of attention to some of the basics in the cottage.
Cleanliness was not as we would have expected, particularly in the kitchen where surfaces were sticky and dishes had to be washed before they were used. Also we had to hoover dead flies and cobwebs off some of the windowsills and I found a toenail clipping on one of the bedroom carpets.

The garden is neglected and overgrown which meant we were unable to enjoy it. This felt like a real shame as we could see from the mature flowers that at one point it must have been beautiful. The advert for the cottage stated there were BBQ facilities, however the base was full of rusty water by the shed and the grill pan was lying by the picnic table with dock leaves growing through it.

We emailed the owner of the cottage to ask about getting the bins emptied as they were full. Unfortunately we didn't a reply until after the bin lorry had been, but we did follow a neighbour's example and put the recycling out. The normal waste bin was full when we left.

It would have been very helpful there were some instructions left in the cottage e.g. bin days, how to operate the heating, the jacuzzi and some details of local shops, restaurants and attractions. Also it would have been nice to have some firewood provided for the stove.

We absolutely loved the location of Hebridean View and overall had a great long weekend. However we will not be taking the property again and would hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. We have stayed in similar cottages throughout Scotland which did not have these issues.

Please note that this is nothing to do with price. We believe that the cottage is worth the rent, provided that essential and promised facilities are up to standard, which disappointingly many weren’t.

Stayed in this amazing house with my family in March 16. It was immaculately clean, tidy and cosy and we had some great family nights gathered round the wood burning fire. The house was toastie all round despite the cold weather. Very spacious with great family kitchen and bathroom. The garden is lovely and the views are to die for. We stocked up on lots of food and drink to see us through but we also enjoyed a couple of trips to a nearby public house. Ideal and very safe for those who enjoy walking and taking in the views. I read the previous positive reviews and as an experienced trip advisor reviewer l would also totally recommend this great find and have already re-booked for the summer as have other family members who equally fell in love with the place.

“Disappointing, cleanliness not as expected”
Reviewed 18 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Pros, lovely location, lovely views, spacious house, warm, well equipped,

Cons., untidy garden, with garden furniture skattered around the garden, old dog dirt everywhere,
Full dishwasher, dirty bedding left in basket, also another large bag of dirty bedding left in bag in utility room. Cooker had not been cleaned and bottom of oven full of oil/grease. Hand brush and shovel, left in the entrance, full of dirt and not emptied. Empty bottle of cleaning liquid left on window sill, notices on wall about heating informing people that they will be charged extra for heating if they switch the heating on outside the times set on timers! We where charged £30 extra for cleaning as we had two small dogs, this was a short break of 3 days, actually think I should charge you for the cleaning we had to do on our arrival!
Jacuzzi, either disconnected or broken.
Although you explained before hand that the broadband was an issue and that it was due to be upgraded, it did not work and the property does not receive a broadband service, so this should be stated as a fact, there is no broadband, and then people know what to expect.
I realise that the rural situation means that a "close eye" is difficult to manage when owner/manager lives away, this is where tripadviser can be a useful tool and hopefully with just a little more attention to detail this will not occur again. Sorry it's not want you wish to hear in a review but I have been truthful.

“Wonderful Cottage”
Reviewed 27 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

The cottage is fantastic. It was perfect for us, our 3 young boys and dog. The weather sadly was dreadful so we weren't able to explore locally by foot so were reliant on long drives to get about. Note that TripAdvisor shows the cottage in wrong place when in map view (Staffin)...this was actually very annoying. Only other negative issue was no broadband as advertised although we were warned immediately after we booked.
