We visited for lunch on a hot day and sat in their courtyard. They have an excellent selection of food, using local ingredients where possible. They have gluten-free bread and can provide sandwiches, soups and cakes gluten-free. The local ham was amazing. Also very friendly and helpful service (our waitress also had Coeliac Disease).

Barry’s coffee house entrance tucked away at the side street though their building is on the main road ... through little green door you will be greeted with a dresser full of lovely looking cakes. There are 3 dining room with rustic homey decoration, they also have seatings outside when the weather is permitted. We ordered one fishes to share, when the food arrived, they kindly separated in 2 dishes for us. The staffs are friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was fresh and delicious. They wouldn’t win all sort of awards without a good reason.

Good local food at a reasonable price, leaf tea no teabags here and a warm welcome in a quaint old fashioned coffee shop.

Had to wrestle with the umbrellas to get any shade - I put up 3 of the huge umbrellas myself (no one thanked me!) as staff had not thought to do this before the sun got really hot. Staff were on an extreme go slow even though they could see we were ready to order and sitting in glaring heat. Older people who came in after us were catered for first. No cards accepted. We just wanted a relaxing cup of coffee and ended up really cheesed off as the experience was annoying & stressful. I wasn’t looking for a ‘Costa coffee’ experience, just good old fashioned service to match the good old fashioned service. Instead it was like taking tea in an old people’s home full of grumpy Brexiteers....

I'm so sorry you didn't get served in order when you visited us: we do do our best to do this, but sometimes things don't go quite as we would wish. So far as the umbrellas are concerned, we have learned from experience that many people like to sit in the sun, so we normally erect the umbrellas for people on request, rather than in advance.

I'm also sorry you didn't see the notice about cards on your way in, and that you apparently weren't in sympathy with the conversations of people round you.

What a gem of a place. We sat outside in the lovely courtyard. The food was delicious, the staff were helpful and the setting just right. The scones were just gorgeous. No complaints from us-nothing but compliments.
