We spent one night here during our trip round Scotland. We arrived before check in time, not expecting to be given our room but to check we had successfully precooked dinner as there had been some difficulty with our Wi-fi. We were told in no uncertain terms we were far too early and not to come back for at least two hours. We couldn’t help but compare this ‘welcome’ with how we had been greeted in New Zealand when arriving early. Why not invite us to wait in the guest lounge and help ourselves to a drink from the trust bar especially since the weather was horrendous.
The room we were allocated had a couple of picture windows, one with a distant view over the harbour. We had a large four poster bed (2 singles pushed together) but with a very thin duvet which barely covered it. The bathroom was very small with nowhere to put our wash bags. The whole place was just generally tired and old fashioned. It lies in an beautiful situation and could be a so much more attractive place to stay.
Breakfast had to be pre-ordered and was very regimented and delivered in a not particularly friendly manner. I cannot recommend the porridge.
Dinner the night before was taken at the Old Inn, again pre-ordered and again very regimented. The whole enjoyment of choosing and sharing of a meal has been taken away by Covid.
Both establishments were very conscious of and strict on Covid sanitising and distancing measures.

The room was clean and the breakfast was made to order. The room wasn't particularly large as the bed took up most of the room. You could hear the doors of other rooms closing.

The breakfast was very good and made to order, but it was strange that you had to go and make your own tea and toast, which results in multiple contacts of equipment, which was against everything else the hotel was trying to do, as they had hand sanitisers at the front door and in the corridors of the hotel.

Booked this hotel very last minute, wouldn’t return! Room very dated but the sheets were very clean and the bathroom was ok. Isn’t somewhere we would normally book I would say it’s more suited to the budget traveller, however at £131 a night it’s not budget prices! Breakfast was ok, pre order required due to Covid restrictions which is understandable and the same at each hotel we’ve stayed at in on route. This hotel really needs a facelift. Staff were very friendly.

A tired looking place in a naturally spectacular location with a neglected garden and an unhappy appearing owner. Very helpful staff. The hotel gives you the impression of having been closed for many years and having re-opened as an emergency measure. The most unimaginative ‘little chef’ style breakfast. Rickety cheap furniture straight from a youth hostel in 1985. Not good value.

Room tip: towards the front great views
