“Peaceful and beautiful”

We just returned from a 4 night stay in the Bake House and have to say it is really lovely. Incredible value for money when compared to hotel prices.
Once inside it was relaxing and quiet and the décor is tasteful. If you wanted to make meals from scratch everything was there but there are many places to eat out and the chip shop across the road does great fish n chips. The Alma Inn is worth a visit for good food and real ales.
We spent quite a lot of time sitting on the pier, or walking along the promenade between Harwich and Dovercourt, watching the marine activity.
We also went to Redoubt Fort and the Mayflower project, both of which are interesting.
We spent one day in Walton on the Naze, about a half hour drive away, which we also enjoyed.
We will definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anybody.

“Lovely bank holiday break”
Reviewed 29 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Booked this fairly last minute as we wanted to get away to the coast for bank holiday but didn't want to drive too far away. The Bake House was perfect and everything we could have wanted for a relaxing weekend. The house is lovely, clean and well decorated with pretty much everything you could need for a short stay. The roof garden is a great little feature and we would have used it more if we weren't out and about. Parking was ok but it sometimes gets busy as the chip shop seems to be very popular!

Harwich is a lovely little place and we really enjoyed walking by the sea. In a geeky moment I was very excited to be able to spot the independent principality of Sealand from the shore (look it up!). We drove over to Clacton one night for dinner (about 25 minutes) and enjoyed it so much we went back the next day to skate along the promenade and test out the amusements on the pier. Really good day with lots of atmosphere and places to eat etc.

Really enjoyed our stay and hopefully we can come back soon!

“Couldn't ask for more”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We loved everything about our stay at the Bake house. Beautiful inside and out, everything you could possibly need in a holiday cottage. Lovely area can do as much or as little as you like. We all really enjoyed our stay with our dog and hope to go back again soon.

Great place to stay and visit. Arrived on the day of the sea festival. Old Town full of people and a great atmosphere.
Accommodation was very comfortable and certainly in the centre of the town, close to sea and places to eat. Well worth a visit.
