Arriving in town later than planned due to horrendous traffic, we needed somewhere to grab a nice quick lunch and happened across a sign for Penny Black; we followed the directions, but ended up in an antique-type shop, but lo and behold, there was a cafe there after all, opening up onto a little courtyard with outside tables. We all chose various types sandwiches and without fail they were all better than we expected; bigger, tastier and certainly more well-filled than I imagine can be found elsewhere in town, with the added knowledge that they were freshly prepared to order. I thought that it was a shame that the cooked breakfast wasn't available at lunch time, but I was more than happy with my chicken and bacon sandwich as a replacement option. There wasn't a table spare during the 45mins or so that we stayed; as soon as one became free there were people sitting down again; a sign of a healthy business and good local reputation.

Lovely little café with a great atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, the cream tea was absolutely fantastic! Nice surprise to find a café using paper straws too, will definitely be coming back.

We chose to meet family here as it looked like a lovely cafe. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The Oreo and Peanut Butter milkshakes went down well. Americano coffee was okay but I would have preferred it a) larger and b) stronger! Very nice, nonetheless, and we'd happily come back next time.

Thank Pints
