I needed somewhere dog-friendly and close to Tavistock for a family visit and I cannot recommend this place enough. For the two of us and a small spaniel it was just the right size with all mod-cons. During a cold and rainy February it was extremely comfortable and with the heating available was never cold.
The area is surrounded by nice walking opportunities and access to the moor itself is only through a few fields. The local village has no amenities other than a dog-friendly pub but with Tavistock and Yelverton so close nothing more is needed. The owners couldnt be more friendly and I have no hesitation in recommending this property. For future family visits to the area I will be looking at returning.
The only issues were no mobile signal (not surprising with the area) and a patchy wifi. Being familiar to the area neither of these were a big surprise but a stronger wifi was found at the local pub if required. When no phone signal is available wifi based message services are important to co-ordinate family and friends arrangements.

This is our third visit and we are booked in again for Spring 2016. Excellent cottage in a quiet village. Need I say more?

I needed a 'bolt-hole' for a few weeks and couldn't have selected a better place. Excellent well-presented, owners who were unerringly helpful and attentive, but not intrusive. Access to lovely walks, on the moor and in the village.
Delighted to become acquainted with Quito, the Black Lab and his selection of toys! The whole atmosphere is relaxed and the accommodation maintained to a high standard.
Wifi is a bonus in a notoriously tricky area. Well done Andrew and Carol!
I shall definitely recommend to friends and return if ever I am in the vicinity. Thanks for a great stay.

Bottom line - this is the best holiday cottage that I have stayed at in England.
The accommodation is perfectly sized for a couple, and finished to a very high standard. The beds and the mattresses were amazingly comfortable.
Andrew and Carol (and Quito) are excellent hosts and the booking, arrival and checkout went very smoothly.
Buckland Monachoum is a lovely little village tucked right on the western edge of Dartmoor. Also highly recommended is the Drake Manor Inn, just 100 yards away, with exceptional food, drink and company.
We are definitely coming back here!

1 review Well equipped cottage situated in a nice quiet village with an excellent pub and beautiful surroundings, We had a wonderful time in Yelverdon. Plymouth is just down the road and has it all (shops, restaurants, marine aquarium, Mayflower museum). Lydford gorge is worth the effort and the moors are great for walkers! Cream tea in Badgers Holt is a must and the small villages in the moors are gorgeous!
