“Outstanding apartment”

Stayed in the ground floor "Mary Dann" apartment for one week early April. We knew it would be good from the photos (and top-end rental charge) but the reality was even better than we expected. Evidently recently refurbished to a high standard, everything oozed quality. Tastefully decorated, appropriately furnished, very well equipped, this is one of the best apartments we've ever stayed in.

We particularly liked the open-plan kitchen/living area layout, and the huge walk-in power shower with sliding screen - nice touch. We blew most of our eating out budget on a meal in Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant so were grateful that the kitchen was well equipped with crockery and utensils; sufficient to knock out a passable seafood paella from scratch, even though I do say so myself!

Duke House itself is well-located, literally only a 2/3-minute walk from the harbour yet with little passing road traffic. For a small place Padstow is well endowed with eating & drinking establishments, all within easy staggering distance of Duke House, so you could eat somewhere different every night of a week's stay if you didn't fancy cooking in.

Overall an excellent holiday (Padstow makes a good base for exploring this corner of Cornwall), made memorable by the superb quality of Duke House.

During the Easter break I spent 3 fabulous days in the Dukes cabin and the apartment made me feel so relaxed. Great location, fantastic local restaurants and only brief walk to the harbour. Very quiet location which made me relax totally and just enjoy the time with my girlfriend and daughter.Good for couples or small families. Excellent holiday and well worth the visit !

“Central Padstow”
Reviewed 6 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

We had arranged a two night stay through an on-line discount voucher agency. We rang up late December to arrange the dates for our stay. On arrival at the venue we were greeted by the owner (Nick) who was most charming and very witty. We were sat down and given a Bucks Fizz and also asked if we would like tea or Coffee after our journey. This seemed like a perfect start to our break. However, we were not booked in according to their records!! This led to a short delay in getting rooms ready for us. (We were also travelling with another couple). We decided to take the two minute walk to the harbour whilst the rooms were prepared for us. After an hour or so at the Harbour and a local pub, we returned back to the Hotel. Our rooms were ready and we were shown to our rooms by Nick. We were very happy with our room (Briar) a king size bed, bath and shower en suite, TV, Tea & Coffee facilities, all in a very spacious room with a chair and table. All the fittings were very clean and elegant in good condition.

Breakfast on the first morning was good, a selection of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, jam and marmalade. Toast on request along with a good full English cooked breakfast. This along with copious amounts of freshly made Tea and Coffee.

Evening meals were available but we did not use this facility.

Breakfast on the second day was a little disappointing mainly due to the bacon being a little over-cooked. Nick, the owner was not around on the second day and this may have lead to the reduction in the quality of the food. However, for the price we paid for a two day stay on a B&B basis, I would thoroughly recommend this venue.

“Perfect apartment for couples”

We stayed for 3 nights in December at Dukes Retreat, the top floor apartment in Duke House. The accomodation was exactly what we expected from the photos and description - perfect for a couple. As expected, the weather was a little chilly to use the hot tub (exclusive use for residents in DR) but we still enjoyed the complimentary bottle of fizzy wine that was chilling in the fridge when we arrived.
Although we have visited Padstow 3 times now, this was our first experience of Padstow Breaks - we will definitely stay here again and would thoroughly recommend. The location in Padstow is perfect, a 2min walk to the harbour. The apartment is finished to a very high standard and has everything we needed. I was particularly impressed that we were provided with fluffy white dressing gowns - a lovely touch!
A slight word of warning, there is a (beautiful) spiral staircase leading to floors 1 and 2 in Duke House, so do consider this if you are thinking of taking big suitcases are if you have trouble with stairs.

“Amazing apartment, Contemporary with some lovely character”
Reviewed 7 November 2012 for a stay in November 2012

We have just had an amazing Autumn break in Dukes Cabin, location is great, contemporary design is beautiful. Restaurants were fabulous and we definitely needed a few walks around the harbour afterwards! We noticed that a previous guest mentioned noise! We were not disturbed or even noticed any noise from other apartments while staying in Dukes Cabin, we have stayed in many properties in North Cornwall over the last few years and this is definitely in our top 3.
