Owner description: An Italianate Palace in the heart of an ancient deer park. Formal gardens, pleasure grounds, rolling Suffolk landscape and woodlands invite gentle strolls or long walks, runs, bike rides and picnics. The Italianate Garden mirrors the architecture of the house, whilst also encasing an idiosyncratic Victorian stumpery, contrasting light and shade. The Rotunda is home to one of the finest silver collections, family portraits by Gainsborough and Reynolds, works by Titian and Velázquez, and Neoclassical sculpture including Flaxman’s ‘Fury of Athamus’. Below stairs, the Servants’ Quarters recreate domestic service through the stories and memories of those who lived here.

Interesting visit this amazing National Trust property, the servents section in the basement in particular, the gardens on a dry day, with many miles of walks, the usual high trust standards in terms of presentation , catering & general facilities.

A lovely visit despite the rain to Ickworth House. Had a tour below stairs which was very interesting and the lady who took the tour does historical cooking in the kitchens at certain times of the year, must go back for that!

The actual site here is very interesting but the cafe serves up vile squash soup. It's utterly tasteless and watery, yet costs a lot. Avoid like the plague.
Mixed feelings going away from this place. Go if you can bear the slow service and avoid the vile soup.

Very nice house and good walk around the estate. In the servants quarters there was a living history event happening. It was supposed to be the 1930s but as it was only staff there in uniform it could have been any time between the wars. And apparently apart from the kitchen the staff seemed to spend most of the time chatting to each other rather than working!
It is a little on the pricey side and NT is only place we've come across that increase the price if you wish to gift aid. The cakes in the restaurant seemed expensive for the size of slice, but highly recommend the cherry Bakewell scones
