Stayed in the Hotel Mena Plaza opposite, so quite often stopped here for a drink, snack and change of scenery. Always friendly service, and always a tasty and quite large portion of tapas when just ordering drinks. One drinks serving we were given a soup/stew - was delicious! Was told it was their Andalucian stew! Defo recommend that! Another time we actually ordered lunch, had the tortillas espana, again delicious. Didn't try a full meal or dinner, but definitely recommend their tapas , drinks and service.

I've been past this place many time and never ventured in. That changed yesterday, and we were greeted by a really friendly and fun female, who took the order very quickly. Service was pretty prompt, but the product was poor. We asked, in Spanish, for 2 large black coffees and also asked for them to be strong (fuerte). What came up was like black water. They were completely flavourless. There are so many better places in this town.

Lovely place to lunch! Right opposite our accommodation so very handy and good food, nice people and a very pleasant sit in the sunshine.

Recently spent two days in Nerja and we were looking for somewhere new. We had walked past this restaurant on a few occasions and this time decided to stop. We are glad we did - nice terrace out front, shaded and sunny, whichever you prefer. We saw that the menu contained a good range of fish and seafood including tapas, media racion and full portions.

We ordered four hot tapas (at 2.50 euros a portion) and two glasses of house wine - red and white. The service was speedy and the tapas was delicious - crispy pulpo(octopus), grilled baclao (cod), calamaris (squid) and rosada (white fish). Each was served with a fresh salad of various shredded leaves with a slightly different dressing - French, garlic mayonnaise, chilli etc.

Having enjoyed a light lunch, we decided to eat at Hermes again, the following day and have a full lunch. We ordered three media racions (good size portions), steamed mussels, prawn wrapped in potato straws, and sepia (cuttlefish) with a portion of French fries - the real thing, thin and crispy (none of your soggy fat chips cooked in olive oil). The meal was served with fresh, crusty bread and a couple of glasses of house wine. Service was excellent and the inside facilities very clean and well appointed.

My wife and I have eaten loads of tapas in bars and restaurants all over the Costa del Sol in the 25 years we have visited and lived in Spain - mostly of the albondigas, overcooked chicken wings and tasteless garlic potatoes variety - and it makes a real change to enjoy a wide range of fresh, tasty fish and seafood dishes.

Although we would consider Hermes more a lunch venue than a dinner choice, we shall certainly visit again and recommend to our friends.

In a nice spot through the arches up from tourist office at the beginning of Plaza de Espana this cafe could be so much better. The outside terrace is grubby, menus falling to pieces, staff rushing round like headless chickens and slow service. We had hot drinks and a bocadillo so not difficult to get the bill wrong? - well they did and I almost paid without checking - we’d been charged for a couple of drinks we never had. Staff muttered n mumbled but sorted it in the end - don’t know if it was deliberate and so recommend you check before paying. So much potential here as it’s less busy than cafes in nearby Balcon square and in a nice sun trap but they really need to up their game.
