I would highly recommend Hira to anyone staying in Patan. Some of the pros are: great location, spacious clean room, nice rooftop view, and very helpful staff. The one con: very low ceilings! I didn't personally have any problems with the low ceilings, but my husband who is 6 ft tall, had to hunch over most of the time to get around. It made for an interesting experience! Breakfast was included with our room and consisted of eggs, toast, cereal, etc. The rooftop was the perfect place to enjoy a beer at night after a long day sightseeing. It overlooks the Golden Temple where you can heard monks chanting. Very cool!
After showing us around the property, we thoroughly enjoyed talking with Aman about life in Nepal and some of the local customs. You could tell he really took pride in his work and enjoyed interacting with the guests staying at Hira.
Definitely check this place out if you're in Patan!

I chose the Hira guest house for the atmosphere of its old rooms and building, the helpfulness and kindness of the staff, the sight from the roof top terrasse over the Golden Temple surrounded by "normal" houses and the families living there and the hot water available all day - and would do so again. I felt very much at home there and at the same time close to everydays life of the local people an not in some excluded and exchangable oasis that might be anywhere.
The low ceilings might really be a problem for people staying for a while (at 1.80 you will hardly be able to stand straight anywhere in your room and bathroom), but thats the price you have to pay for a carefully and stylishly renovated old house.

The guest house is located right at the center of Patan (Lalitpur). Just 5mins walk to Patan durbar square, and there are shops and restaurants close by!

The building itself not to mention is just a beauty! it is a 200 years old building that you can smell the history once you got into the building; they keep the brick wall and wooden staircase as how it used to be, but renovated the furniture and facilities with Nepalese decorations inside! This is a must try experience during your stay in Nepal~ It is totally different from the normal hotels and guest houses~

The breakfast was also so GOOD and RICH! they served you basically everything you need in the morning! Juice, hot coffee, toasts, eggs, fruit, yogurt, etc.

The hospitality was also just GREAT! staff were amazing and helpful, you felt like you are at home :) Thank you very much for the beautiful living experience!

This is an old Newari house in the middle of Patan. The rooms are spacious but very dark (and cold) and only for very small people. Even with my only 1,65 height it was challenging not to hit the head everytime. The staff wasn't welcoming at all, was totally disappointed, cause due to the reviews I expected something completely different. Breakfast was served on the roof top, due to no other guests just a very simple served breakfast with no possibilty to even get extra coffee. With paying so much money for quite a basic room, I would not expext the staff sitting next to me during breakfast, perparing hair and polishing nails.
Noise level in this house was extremly high, street noise and neighbours and if you are a light sleeper you will find it hard to find some rest.
This guesthouse is definitely overpriced!! Much nicer options just a few meters up the street!
