...as well as Capitol Butte and Chimney Rock
To the west, Cockscomb Butte, Doe Mesa, Bear Mtn and even Jerome on distant Mingus Mtn
To the east, unobstructed vistas of Sugar Loaf, the Mittens and Schnebly Hill
And to the south, a panorama of Sedona's most famous rocks--Courthouse, Bell & Cathedral
The red rock vistas are magnificent at any time of year--after a summer monsoon storm...
...or winter snowfall
...and often with a constantly changing tableau of light and shadows throughout the day
The spacious deck looks out on to the full expanse of Sedona's eastern & southern horizons
...and in the glow of a setting sun offers stunning views of Cathedral and Bell rocks
From the bedroom terrace, peaceful panoramic vistas to the west and north
The large patio, shaded by juniper trees, has 360 degree views...
...to enjoy from both the eating area...
...and the 5-seat hot tub!
The 2 1/2 acres are extensively landscaped, primarily with native plants...
..with lots of color, high-desert fragrance--and bees!--from February on into November
The sound of running water in back and front ponds adds to the peacefulness of the garden
A front view of Talahogan in its summer dress...
...and its winter one
The great room has an open feel that connects and harmonizes with the outside...
Also a peaceful energy, thanks in part to soft earth tones and natural alder paneling
Though completely remodeled, it still retains the old fireplace & rustic charm of the old cabin
From the dining area are views of Red Rock Country virtually in all directions
The den offers a separate TV room with futon sofa, 46' smart TV...
...large desk and inviting sitting area...
...with magnificent views for your morning coffee or evening drinks
Boynton Canyon BR: A comfortable queen-sized bed, swivel easy chair...
...a spacious, custom alder desk...
...and a sweeping vista of the Wilderness Area to greet you in the morning!
Cockscomb BR: A comfortable queen-sized bed, large walk-in closet...
...and a magestic view of Cockscomb Butte to gaze out onto!
Sugar Loaf BR: King-sized bed, small frig, TV...
...separate bath with shower...
...covered deck and expansive views on to Sugar Loaf and Sedona's eastern horizon
The main bath has spacious counters and vanity...
...and a bath/shower with great views in BOTH directions
Given its openness, natural habitat and water, wildlife abounds at Talahogan...like this mule deer
Javelina herds come regularly to drink and graze...
...and steal seed from the birdfeeder!
Even an occasional bobcat strolls through...
...and now and then a coyote, though you'll hear 'em a LOT more than see 'em!
But you'll see lots of cottontails either at the pond or grazing on the Mexican primrose
Given the inviting habitat, you'll also see LOTs of wild birds, like this yellow-hooded oriole...
...and female ladder-back woodpecker
A western cardinal family makes its home on the property. Here the male...
...and his mate, which loves to bathe in the little creek
The bird feeder, of course, attracts them all, like these house finches...
...but it's the gamble quail who rule the roost!
The beauty, nature and peace of Talahogan is waiting for you...

We are three life long friends celebrating our 70th birthdays and chose Sedona for the occasion. Staying at Talahogan made the trip. We loved the views, the quiet, the living with the red rock beauty this home provides. Our stay was awesome!

“SURROUNDED BY BEAUTY”
Reviewed 27 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

There is no greater joy than spending seven days of our Arizona vacation at Talahogan. The natural beauty of the place is unsurpassed . . . and that includes the landscape as well as every convenience the house offers. We prepared most of our meals together, and whether eating inside or out on the patio, the views were always relaxing and spectacular. We all arrived with our cameras . . . my 8 and 10 year-olds grandsons loved to get close-ups of the hummingbirds and lizards. I would awake at early daybreak to see the hot air balloons floating by the bedroom window. We left the house occasionally to take a jeep ride through some of the trails, a horseback ride and Cowboy Cookout at M Diamond Ranch, the Friday morning Farmers Market, a slip sliding and apple picking outing at Slide Rock State Park and the boys and their Dads did some trail hiking and rock climbing. The weather was ideal . . . light comfortable breeze and low humidity. Did I love everything about it? YES including Ron, the owner.

Management Response
28 Aug 2016
Maggi, thank you so much for this excellent review, the kind personal compliment as well as all our earlier correspondence! Reviews are always welcome, but so few guests--even those who profess LOVING Talahogan--take the time to pen one. Very delighted to know your grandsons enjoyed getting close to the wildlife that abounds up there; and if they got any good shots of those hummingbirds, please share! Also, how did you like M Diamond Ranch? Am aware of it but never visited.
Many thanks again and hope you;ll all be able to return again.
Ron

My family and I stayed at Talahogan for the month of May and it was one of the most unforgettable vacations. The place was amazing. The inside of the house is very charming with stunning views from every window. The outside is surrounded by breathtaking views and gardens that welcome wildlife. One of my favorite characteristics of Talahogan is that the windows are slightly tinted allowing the animals outside not to be startled when watching them. We were able to see Javelina, golden eagles, deer, bobcats, coyotes, and many different kinds of beautiful birds. The area is private and quite which makes the stay very peaceful. It’s a short drive to town and to several hiking trails in the area. We have stayed in several other highly rated places including homes and Enchantment resort in Sedona and Talahogan is by far the most incredible place. Usually when in Sedona we drive to different places to see the beautiful scenery, at Talahogan you are completely immersed in it. I would recommend anyone visiting Sedona to stay here!

“Talahogan was a dream!”

My sister, 22 year old nephew, 84 year old father, and I stayed here for three nights. The home was absolutely perfect for us, with a bedroom for each of us, along with the futon in the den. There was an amazing view from big picture windows in every single direction! We so enjoyed having our coffee and breakfast outside on the patio each morning. It's so peaceful and quiet, being in such a secluded residential area. However, a short drive into town gets you to any and everything you could possibly need.
Though we didn't spend our time cooking at home, you certainly could. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need to cook a complete meal.
The meticulously landscaped grounds were such a delight to walk through in the mornings and evenings. We didn't get to see any wildlife during our stay, but the giant rock formations were more than enough for us to admire.
The only negative was that we didn't stay longer. When I go back with my husband, we will stay a whole week!

“Lovely natural place with stunning view.”
Reviewed 10 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This is a fantastic place with an outstanding 360 view on the surrounding red rock mountains. In particular the panorama views early in the morning and in the evening are breathtaking. The property offers a lot of places to sit outside in the shade to relax. Another highlight is the beautiful, natural garden with a great variety of local plants and trees. It was great fun for our kids to watch rabbits, birds and other animals which live there. The house is very well equipped and offers plenty of individual space. As there are a lot of large windows on all sides you still feel like being in nature, even when sitting inside. This is definitively a place for us to come back again in the future.
