Hiked around the back of Cathedral Rock.. about 3miles round trip. Definitely better than the crammed parking lot that is at the base of the Rock. Pretty scenery, hiked along a river and the treat at the end was Cathedral Rock. Easy hike with a few steep climbs. Good for all ages!

If you are in Sedona, you absolutely need to climb to the top of Cathedral rock. The views at the top ARE definitely worth it. Do not stop half way up, although you might want to. We hiked to the top with our 9 year old daughter, and she said it was the best part of the whole trip.

Going to the Grand Canyon in January makes for a nice diversion from the summer heat . To see the Cathedral Rock appear from the nites darkness through the morning light is spectacular ! Once daylight breaks and seeing all the colors it bursts more colors as the sun continues to rise , also creating more shadows and truly making the trip spiritual ! The temperatures around morning can vary as well as snow . It was about 25 degrees about an hour before sunrise however the morning canyon up drafts create a weird wind chill effect . Come dressed warm including something on your head . Its worth giving up a few hours sleep to truly witness one of the best sightseeing effects on Cathedral Rock .

A fun, challenging but doable hike with stunning views. We arrived early in the morning (around 7:30am) on a Saturday of the Easter long weekend and there were only a few other people there. It was perfect! Definitely the best part of our trip to Sedona. We had stopped the day before at the Visitor's Centre in uptown Sedona and got help planning out day and picked up a parking pass.

We rented high-end mountain bikes at one of the local bike shops to cycle the Bell Rock Pathway around Cathedral and Bell Rocks. We were grateful for the enhanced suspension on the bikes during our super thrilling ride! Beware - even the "beginner" trails have very challenging areas, requiring cycling over rock piles and tree roots; around boulders and vegetation. But the most challenging parts for me were cycling on thin slippy red sand stretches on the sides of high cliffs. Not for the faint of heart! But the scenery was worth the pain and fear.
