Probably the worst meal I have ever had. Asked for extra lean brisket and got a mountain of fat. Everything is loaded with unnecessary amounts of oil.
Even with everything being oily and greasy it all tastes bland and bad, Hoping we all don't get sick.

Mowry and Cotton was inviting. The plates were packed with fresh ingredients, and on the very healthy side. Flatbreads were good, but some other items lacked flavor. Good choice for a quick hotel lunch but not for dinner.

What a nice place even for breakfast. Nice and cool in side and outside you overlook the terraced pool area and are southern facing so you can see the broad valley . Them menu is simple but certainly refined. We were waited on “hand and foot” and the food was excellent. I had the avocado toast and a cup of coffee. The seats were comfortable and you never felt rushed.

Came here for their summer special (3 for 30). Had to wait 10 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation. Then our server took several minutes to get to us, where we had to ask for a drink menu and a summer special menu, neither of which had been given to us initially.

He finally took our order about 20 minutes after we arrived. Our bread (first course, took another 15 minutes, which wasn't long after the drinks finally arrived. Once the food came it was delicious. The cauliflower side had great flavor. The grilled onion had an excellent sauce with it. The lamb tacos were close to awesome.

But would I go back? Definitely not. Too many other options out there with better service. The view of the pool is okay, but not worth putting up with the hassle.

First of all, The Phoenician/Mowry & Cotton is in Phoenix NOT Scottsdale which, for me, is a good thing because I reside in downtown Phoenix. That said, I won't be returning soon, if ever.

On entry, even though they had our reservation via OpenTable making them aware of our request to sit outdoors and that we would be enjoying the Arizona Restaurant Week menu, we were queried as to our seating preference AND seated without the appropriate menus. This isn't a hUUUge problem but one that should NOT even present itself at a "5-star" resort. Our server, Nolan and his assistant, Austin, were prompt, capable and responsive. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy at prime time on Saturday night and it seemed appropriately staffed with team members delivering food from the kitchen as it was ready.

We stuck to the RW menu and were not disappointed. Chopped salad, charred onions, grilled shrimp and especially the Hanger steak were all excellent. Timing, temperatures,
presentation and taste couldn't have been better. We paired our entrees with a reasonably priced AZ Stronghold Syrah that accompanied the bold tastes of our entrees quite nicely.

Chosen desserts included the cornbread pudding with ice cream revealing a spicy character that continued the boldness quotient as well as the lemon meringue tart that proved to be a nice finish to the meal.

If only we were done then...we weren't.

Nolan presented our check and we offered a CC to pay for the meals for four which came to a grand total of $227. including a mandatory 18% gratuity. To Nolan's credit, upon check presentation, he did alert us to the fact that tip was included but this was the FIRST we were hearing of it...kinda "after the fact"!

Austin returned with the CC and receipt to be totaled and signed. The amount authorized for CC charge was only $125. We thought, for one brief moment that somehow, someone (our management visitor to the table, Michelle Gonzales, perhaps?) had gifted us with a discount. I more or less "dis-counted" THAT idea and tracked down Nolan on my own to inquire about the discrepancy. He owned-up to the "mistake", re-presented our check explaining that the pre-authorization for $125. would not be charged until and unless it was submitted as a total amount which it hadn't sooo0000, he attempted to pre-authorize the correct amount ($227.) and, OF COURSE (and thankfully), the CC company refused the charge creating a fraud alert. We received the notice at the table while waiting for Nolan to work though the issue. What seemed like a VERY long time and after presenting another less preferred form of payment we were finally outta there with barely an apology.

Normally, we would have bumped up the tip to 20% + but, under the circumstances we left the tip line empty knowing he was already receiving 18%.

There were other issues too that should be addressed by M&C management. The outdoor seating for a meal taking several hours is uncomfortable. The cushions on the wood seats are not thick or firm enough. The lighting during the evening was abruptly adjusted in a manner that could not help but be noticed by all and was disconcerting. If one of the goals at M&C is to attract local fine diners to add to the in-house guests they will have to "up their game" considerably. Service is a bit too familiar for parties engaged in their meals and conversation and the ambiance is ultra kid/family friendly...not a bad thing generally but, next time I'll think about J&G upstairs or elsewhere entirely.
