This museum is not too big to enjoy in the course of a few hours. I loved all the history and the chance to tour the Capitol. This building is now a museum and not officially used for the House or Senate but is wonderful to visit and the grounds are history within themselves with all the displays.

We have toured many state capitols and we knew this was a museum so we were not really excited about going. They don't give guided tours but there is a lot of history of the state that was very interesting. It didn't have the same feel of a working capitol but was a nicely kept up historic building.

The Arizona Capitol building is one of three state capitols that does not house it's legislature. The building has various displays in rooms on the first floor. There is one for the Phoenix Suns, another that has good exhibits that explain the areas progression from territory to statehood, and the best one is about the USS Arizona. Upstairs the displays include an historic legislative chamber and a room that has various historical displays including an interesting section on the Rough Riders and the Spanish-American War.
The building has an interesting sculpture on the roof that also serves as a weather vane.
The legislative chambers are in separate building next to the capitol.

The Arizona Capitol museum was a nice stop upon our arrival to Phoenix. They had nice clean restrooms, and cold water, and you could fill a water bottle. The helpful guide provided a map and advice. The nicest feature was the Life and Death of the USS Arizona, the silver work was stunning and the Champagne bottle story was very touching. They have a store and they serve Starbucks coffee. The second floor has the Mine Inspector information which was interesting. It was cute that you could take photos with Arizona themes. Who knew that Arizona was related to Miranda rights. At the fourth floor you can look down and see all of the building well. The statue on the roof was purchased from the Sears catalog way back when. It was beautiful. It was a nice experience.

Learned some great facts about Arizona. If you’re a trivia or political buff, then it’s a great place to visit. It’s free. So is the memorial park in front of the capitol—that was wonderful! Great sculptures in that park!
