We have been in San Martin de Los Andes for three nights. We had dined in many April law throughout the past ten days in Argentina. Tonight we were looking for something different. We got a recommendation from a shopkeeper (Eugenia in a small shop in the Savia mall on Calle San Martin who also recommended our wonderful hysteria, Casa Eugenia). We arrived at 8:30 for our reservation and, as expected given the early hour for Argentina, were the first and only guests in the restaurant. This gave us the added opportunity to chat with our server who also turned out to be one of the owners and chefs of the restaurant. She is Colombian and her husband, the Chef, is Argentinean. The food, from start to finish, was delicious and lovely! First came home baked bread with two spreads, one, a beet and eggplant mixture and the other homemade hummus. The bread was warm and delicious. That coupled with the spreads was a lovely way to begin the meal. We spent time chatting and then asked what menu item she was most proud of. She stated that the agnolotti were wonderful. Indeed, they were, as was the trout (trucha) with pumpkin purée. We shared the two main dishes and, because the desserts looked so good, chose to skip an entree. Once the entrees came we knew that we had made the right choice. The food was terrific. To accompany the meal I had a glass of the Malbec and my other half had an IPA that is brewed on premises. Both were delicious. We chose the pear and apple tart for dessert, another wonderful selection.
The entire experience was so terrific. The food and drink were divine, but, the fellowship of the owners is something that you cannot manufacture. Such a lovely, kind, and welcoming couple in a warm, delicious, and beautiful locale. The design of the restaurant can be described as casual eclectic. Fun, painted tables, light fixtures made from items found in the house of the chef's grandmother, and other items from the Colombian family that Maria Cecelia (I hope I got her name right) left behind in Colombia. What a treat this was, from start to finish. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It was truly a delicious and delightful evening!!!!
