We were looking for an Italian restaurant for dinner last night and based on Trip Advisor reviews, decided to go to the Trattoria Napolitana Vespoli. We arrived after 8PM but there was only one other couple in the restaurant - it did fill up by 9PM. Like several of the other reviewers, were were the only English speaking people in the restaurant. We had a little trouble ordering but we worked it out.
The food was very good and the portions were large. If we had known how big the portions were, we would have ordered only one meal. Of of respect for the chef, I felt I had to eat all of my meal but there was just too much food :-). My wife, the more sensible one, ate only about half of her dinner.
The service was okay - had it been more attentive, I would have given the restaurant five stars.
In addition to the food being very good, it was not expensive - and it would have cost even less if we had spit a portion which we could have easily done!
Our hotel is near the Plaza de las Americas and it was a bit of a walk to get to the restaurant but it was nice walking through the streets. I especially was glad for the walk on the way back because I had overeaten!
FYI, on the bill there was a 25 peso charge per person for "cubierto". We looked it up and "cubierto" means cover charge. We did not see it mentioned on the menu - but I am sure it was there! It was not a lot of money but I mention it in case you go and question the charge.
p.s. I had at the polo a la portugese and recommend it!
