Owner description: The most celebrated Argentineans, including Eva Peron and her family, are buried at this elaborate cemetery, where mausoleums replicate chapels, pyramids and Greek temples.

If you are used to Europe's cemetery, don't go to this one. You won't be impressed. Even thought, it is a very nice place to visit full of stories about people death.

The small shops are nicer, you can find some cool stuff to buy and bring to family, friends and so on.

If you go there, take a few km to visit the Solaris generics. This one is amazing (it is next to civil rights college)

Having read about and seen photos of the cemetery, it was a must sightseeing stop and did not disappoint. The cemetery was within walking distance of our hotel in busy Recoleta but seemed quiet and removed from the hustle and bustle. I asked a guard about Eva Peron's tomb, and while she did not speak English, she understood the name and pointed out the location on a large map in a foyer area. We wandered through the cemetery stopping often to look at the different monuments and their plaques. I had not realized how large it was, and we got lost several times on our quest. We finally found the Duarte location and joined the crowd around it. We were impressed with the experience and would recommend it.

Recoleta is a lovely area of BA and you cannot travel here without visiting the Duarte family tombstone.. Eva would be so disappointed. Some of the 'vaults' need some renovations but its a must do when in BA.. lovely part of the City and a great resting place.

Private guide says we’re going to visit a cemetery. Really? Yawn. But this was incredible and unique. One of the most interesting places we’ve ever visited. Wealthy Argentine families buy a plot and build a family mausoleum. It’s very fashionable and they are mostly elegant, ornate and spectacular. A sad few are in disrepair. It’s a bunch of miniature castles, palaces, and mansions. If the family falls behind on payments, the mausoleum is repossessed and the dead are disinterred. It’s a World Heritage Site so many restrictions. Our guide had fascinating anecdotes about the historic families. Of course, Eva Peron body is there and expect a crowd at her site. This is by far the most interesting site to visit in BA. Do not miss this.

During my first visit to Buenos Aires city in 2009, I visited this well-known cemetery, which contains the graves of some notable people like Eva Peron, various Presidents of Argentina, and a granddaughter of Napoleon. Set in 14 acres, the site contains more than 4,500 vaults, many marble mausoleums, decorated with statues.
There is a lovely historical bar nearby, called La Biela, where we sat outside in the sun after our visit. A wonderful afternoon.
